How to get involved in water polo
Useful contact information
Want to get involved in water polo but don't know where to start? Here are some quick tips on getting started in this exciting water sport.
Top water polo players must be fit, strong and fast at swimming, and have immense stamina to tread water during play. As such, anyone wanting to get involved needs to be a proficient swimmer – and so going to a swimming club is the best place to start.
With London 2012 fast approaching water polo has been invigorated in the UK by British Swimming. Increased funding has seen popularity spike and, with any luck, this renewed commitment and interest in the sport will lead to the first British Olympic success in the sport since 1920.
If you fancy getting involved in water polo then the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) has over 1000 affiliated swimming clubs listed on their website through which you can use to find your local club. You can also use the site to search for coaches in your local area.
