Spectacular running routes

A trip away does not have to mean that your running is neglected. Why not take advantage of your travel opportunities by running on one of the world's best running routes?

Distance: 7.5 miles (12.1 km)

This is a very flat route, and one that takes in some of the best sights of Sydney – including the famous Opera House and Botanic Gardens. You can do a good circuit run by starting at the eastern end of Circular Quay and following the walkway around to the Opera House, where you can – if you’re feeling particularly energetic – run up and then down the steps of the Opera House.

You can then follow the route through the Botanic Gardens, past Farm Cove, Hyde Park, Darling Harbour and the Convention Centre, and across Pyrmont Bridge. Eventually, you’ll get to Pier One – which provides superb views across the harbor – after which you can go under the Harbour Bridge and then continue to Circular Quay. Of course, it’s also possible to work out your own shorter route if you don't want to or can't manage the full run.

Top tips: There are plenty of water stations along the way – plus there are facilities at Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, the Opera House, and the Domain, should you get caught short. Also, the gates to the Botanic Gardens are generally only open during daylight hours.
