Running in Marrakech, Morocco
Spectacular running routes
A trip away does not have to mean that your running is neglected. Why not take advantage of your travel opportunities by running on one of the world's best running routes?
Distance: 26.2 miles (42.16km).
If you’re fed up pounding the streets at home, then why not think about running in marvelous Marrakech? It’s a stunning city and one that you’ll not forget – particularly if you take part in the city’s marathon in January along with up to 5,000 other runners. Daytime temperatures are not too stifling – around 20 to 25°C – but even if you’re not quite up to that full challenge, the magical city offers an exceptional setting for a run during the evening.
Try taking in some of the marathon route even if you’re not doing the marathon, as it’s a beautiful circuit and is considered to be one of the fastest in the world. The route runs in the shadow of the Atlas Mountains and is laid out across the roads along the palm-tree-covered area of Marrakech, the orange-and-olive-tree-lined Menara Gardens, and the ramparts of the old and legendary Medina of Marrakech.
Top tips: In addition to the classic marathon distance, the Marathon de Marrakech offers a half marathon, a roller-blade marathon, and a fun run for 13 to 18 year olds. If you’re looking to record a personal best, then this could be the course in which to do it, as it’s flat and has only several hundred runners.
