The first Karate Kid movie is an entertaining and inspiring motion picture to get you back into the exercise groove or spur you into fitness action.

Stars: Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, Martin Kove

Karate Kid in a nutshell: Fresh from New Jersey, Daniel LaRusso is an out-of-towner who is tormented by his new California schoolmates and the bullies from a nearby karate dojo. A handyman/martial arts master, Mr Miyagi, agrees to teach the bullied boy karate through some unconventional methods such as endless hours of fence painting and car waxing.

Why Karate Kid is inspirational: A feel-good ending provides the finale that most viewers will be seeking – especially those who wish to feel inspired. Plus, the grueling training regime under which LaRusso is put under – much of which doesn’t at first appear to be karate-orientated – should help put your own training woes in perspective!

Fact about Karate Kid: Comedian Pat Morita was initially turned down for the role of Mr Miyagi because there was a ‘no comedian’ policy when looking for an actor. He was later given the role because he was best for it after reading.
