Without Limits in a nutshell
Without Limits is another movie about Steve Prefontaine which covers much of the same material as Prefontaine – and is equally inspiring! It focuses on Prefontaine (Billy Crudup) and his coach Bill Bowerman (Donald Sutherland), who later co-founded Nike. The movie shows how Prefontaine enjoyed almost rock star status due to his running ability, and flouted the conventions of the time – thereby dragging the sport into a new era.
The movie was actually co-produced by Tom Cruise, who had wanted to play the lead role but decided he was too old. Crudup and Sutherland put in excellent performances for a movie which, although it flopped at the box office, is considered to be a winner by many critics and athletes alike.
