Fiona's Marathon Diary

Oh my; I'm really entered into the London Marathon!

I've stood there for hours cheering the runners, especially those running for the cancer charities, for the last seven years and now I want that runner to be me! My brother Jay was paralysed in March 2007 in an accident just before the last London Marathon so I am going to run for the Spinal Injuries Association.

This is my public log of how I'm doing.....

VMLM 2016

Gosh seems like a long time ago since October 2014 when I got my ballot place in the 2015 London marathon. Well I deferred to 2016 and now I can almost see the start line. I forgot that marathon training was mental aswell as physical. I should have done...

Yippeeeeeee

I got a yes!!! This year it will be for the cancer charities.

Don't be late!!

I had the most wonderful marathon day. I was very slow - more than six hours. But I had just the best time. I saw so many stories on the back of people's vests, met some other truly inspirational runners, saw so many friends and family on the Highway an...

Good luck everyone!!!

Good luck everyone! London on Marathon day is the best most exciting place to be in the world. It is immensely inspiring and moving and happy. I've cheered on countless runners running for charities so close to their hearts carrying photos of their near...

I'm just off off for about 11 miles in London and it's one degree. The week before marathon day looking like it's going up to 21c so lookling like a hot one. My training has been ok. I had a sore hip last week so only managed 17.5 miles for my last long...

So far so good!

So in my training plan I'm just aiming to get round - to get to the start would be a big bonus so every week that I manage to complete all the runs on my training programme just makes me feel really excited! Tonight was the first 45 min of the week on t...

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year to all you lovely runners! I'm very excited because I have made it to and have actually started week one of my marathon training plan having built up a hopefully solid  base over the last few months. I can't believe it - I didn't make it ...

Trying again

Got my congratulations magazine (hooray) through yesterday which is carried over from last year as an 'ill or injured' entry. Finally did 5k yesterday too having built up again so slowly from March so hopefully so far so good. My osteo says I'm in good ...

Fastish walking

I'm finding it sooo hard seeing all the runners around here - there are loads and loads - I just want to join them....  I've been advised not to run or swim or cycle because of my shin splints. But walking is ok apparently so I thought I'd do some fast ...

London 2012 is not happening ...

I've been diagnosed with shin splints or tibial stress syndrome. At first it was just along the front of my leg and a bit of cross training was ok. Then a bit of exercise bike and a bit of swimming. But it's still been too much so now I'm out of any for...

First hour long run

I managed to run for a whole hour on Sunday evening. It was great. I felt slightly disconnected from my legs afterwards and felt like I was walking on air but so pleased I did it. I managed to run 8.2 k so over 5 miles for the first time. Also went for ...

Park runs are great and new s...

So this week has been a bit slow. I've done my 45 mins on Monday and Wednesday but they've been quite slow really - 4 miles and 3.9 miles. I thought I'd do a Park Run as well this Saturday which was great and confirmed that I can run quicker if I need t...

Four miles...

I've done 12 miles since Thursday in three runs which I'm so pleased with! Tonight I had a great run. Still wearing my fleece to keep chest warm and glad I did as quite windy tonight although not raining. But I felt I could push it further and run faste...

Long run tonight and still go...

I went for a great long run tonight. The lights of London are beautiful and getting ready for Christmas already but it makes running easier to see the lights in the trees! And I saw the coca cola lorry with Father Christmas parked in the park next to To...

Feeling much better!

Hooray went for my first run this week since cough which now appears to be above my throat again. The run really helped me to feel better even though I'm still a bit sniffly. I really really enjoyed my run so relaxing and free. It might be dark and cold...

Training has been going ok bu...

So I completed my shorter (and slower) runs during the week and also a good fast swim - and was due to complete a 50 min training run this weekend - but I've come down with a sore chest and a threatened cough and a sore throat. :( So I've been checking ...

Running with others!

Running with Husband and kids on bikes and scooters this afternoon which was lovely and so sunny. Lots of support to do 41 mins and about 3.5 miles. I'm so pleased my calf felt much better after the run so maybe it's nothing to worry about.

Soreish ankle

Nice run tonight aside from a slightly weak ankle which I kept landing on awkwardly and tripping on it. I think it's ok so far but haven't had that for ages. I do seem to be running faster. Think I'll try to consciously slow down but go for longer at th...

Spinal Injuries Association

Definitly running for SIA in the Marathon now so that's good. They are ok with me running for an autistic charity too in Basingstoke. Ace. Run tonight was lovely. About 5k in 30.26 mins and it felt good - that hilly run in saturday is good. Start extend...

Hills are hard!

Did my first Park Run today on a very hilly course. The people that volunteer for these are brilliant - so warm and welcoming. I'll definitly volunteer this year. Oh my gosh though - was puffing hard at two minutes and it was hard going! I thought I'd s...

Raining today....

But I still went running! Yes proper rain today! First time I've thought its raining properly I'm still going out. usually I wait til it's dry. And it was ok. It's true that they say you forget about it after a short while. Second run this week and 30 m...

Wapping 5k

So did my first race against distance tonight - 5.09k and 33.14 mins which is 5.71 miles per hour which is just slightly slower than I am planning but faster than I had hoped. I'm going to do a park run next week and work on speed this week. I'm now aim...
