My running goal for 2009 was to achieve a sub 3:15:00 time in the Flora London Marathon to achieve a Good For Age placing. However the quantity of training I put in was not matched by a similar level of quality. I therefore missed my goal by a massive 23 minutes. It didn't affect my day though -  I had a fantastic time.   I didn't win a place in the ballot for the 2010 Virgin London Marathon, so I backed off the intensity and duration of my training for the winter in order to give myself more time to devote to other things. I plan just two races this year, both are half marathons (Chester and Lake Vyrnwy) and I intend to run both at a gentle get-me-around pace. As to the Good For Age quest - well I didn't manage it but it does give me something to aim for at some point in the future.   2012 update - I have a place in the VLM 2012 and am running in memory of a great work colleague Stephanie Jones and in aid of Nightingale House Hospice. If you are looking for my charity page you can find it at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GlennDimelow but please don't feel obliged to do so.

Wow, Wow, Wow

Where do I start? Well I'm going to start by mentioning some very generous people. I am overwhelmed by the number of people who have really dug deep and very generously sponsored me for the VLM 2012. I was running in aid of Nightingale House Hospice and...

Steph - This one is for you

Well hello again. It has been a very long time since my last update so this one could go on somewhat. For those who use to read my updates, they will probably remember just how much they went on…and on… and zzzzzzz So far I’ve run just 3 marathons whic...

Vyrnwy Half Marathon

Time for an update do you think? Stop groaning at the back there, you're going to get one whether you like it or not. First a quick summary of the past few months. I've continued my training but at a level to attempt to maintain my fitness rather than i...

Running and Rocking

Okay I admit I was wrong not to keep you up to date on my running on my last post so I'll attempt to make up with it now. My run at Bourton on the Water was 5.4 miles at a fairly casual 8:25 pace though I do have an excuse as the first half of the run w...

Running a B&B

Time for another post I think. Okay, I'm well overdue for another post but what's new eh? Rather than bore you all with my training times this time like I usually do I thought I would instead tell you about a few days I have just spent away with Melanie...

Race for Life Day

Ok let see, what news this week then? Well to start with I did some reminiscing and was looking back through my training log and I came across a figure I hadn't looked at in a quite a long while - my total miles run since I started training in December ...

The Chester Half 2010

Hellooooo it's me again and well overdue for another update, so here goes. Earlier this year a couple of colleagues of mine, John and Simon decided they would run the Chester Half with me. Unfortunately with just over 6 weeks to go before the race, John...

It all starts here

Okay that's the first hurdle out of the way. I've entered the ballot. Fingers crossed that I'll be one of the lucky few, but hey, if not, there's always another chance in 2012. Good luck to everyone!

Good Luck all you Virgin Lond...

I just had to pop back in to wish you all well for Sunday. The London Marathon is such a great event and I am both jealous and somewhat relieved that I'm not doing it this year. Although I'm back running again and once again putting in the distance, tho...

Move along please - there's n...

Well at least no running to see. Yes it has now been 4 weeks (well actually 4 weeks 1 day and 8 hours) since my last run. Unfortunately I've been unable to shake the gunk of my chest and I still sound like I've been smoking 80 Capstan Full Strength a da...
Ha ha, yes I'm back! I've just paid my £18 - Hang on HOW MUCH??? and have just signed up for the Chester Half Marathon. It will only be a trot around as I won't be fit enough for much else having not run in just over 3 weeks. Unfortunately the man-flu I...

I'm back - though perhaps jus...

Yes, a once frequent blogger has gone right off the rails. My last blog was at the beginning of December, but fortunately my running has continued (though on a much reduced scale). So for an update - life got pretty busy. After travelling around the cou...

Double-Day or was it a Tripl...

Right so what has happened. in the last couple of weeks. Well my cold got better, though I still have a bit of a cough - not enough to keep me from running though and bringing danger to the streets once more. On one of my evening runs, I was happily run...

November update

What is going on? Once upon a time if I missed my fix of reading blogs and posting updates for a day, I'd be getting withdrawal symptoms and here I am now posting my first update this month!! So I guess I should get you all up to speed. It has been an i...

Lazy bum

Last week I put 25 miles in between Sunday and Monday as I wasn't sure what chance I'd have during the remainder of the week and I didn't want to wimp out on the training. As it happened I wasn't able to do any more running that week but that wasn't bec...

Dangerous country

Hmmm the comments on my last posting got me wondering about the distance we would travel in order for Hannah to find the ideal universities for her to apply to. She told me that most of the other people on her course were looking around the more local u...

I've really done some miles t...

Unfortunately most of them by car rather than running. Saturday was a long day. Up, breakfasted and out the door for 3am and a long drive down to Rochester to have a look around the University of Creative Arts. Arriving at 8:30 we took the opportunity t...

Training week done and dusted

Another busy day in work today but I did manage to get out at 5:30. I therefore took the opportunity to get out for another run to finish off making up for my lack of running earlier in the week. As the nights are starting to draw in I decided to take o...

Working my way around to a run

Phew busy, busy, busy. Since my 11.5 miles on Sunday my running has been non-existent until tonight that is. Monday and Tuesday saw me working from 7:30am to 8:30pm and not feeling in the mood for anything but my bed outside of those hours. Fortunately ...

A testing time

The plan (okay stop laughing, I know the thought of me with a plan is really... well.. scary I suppose). Perhaps I should have said 'the idea' was to move my Saturday run to Friday night as I knew I'd be a bit busy at the weekend. However when I returne...

How quickly time flies when y...

Since the Flintshire 10K on Sunday I've been scouring the web to try to find the results and it appears they have just been posted. Eager to find our positions I scrolled down the list. It was 1:04:00 on the clock as Hannah and I passed the finish. What...

Flintshire 10K

Tee hee, sorry I'm still laughing at the comments on my last posting. On the Saturday following my last post, we had a works event and what a great day. We filled two carriages of The Orient Express Northern Belle, travelling from Warrington to Telford ...

Following advice

What a beast of a posting that last one was - well according to the Realbuzz counter it was my 666th anyway. I'd mentioned that as I won't be able to run on Saturday, I would have to bring my run forward to Thursday or Friday evening. I was struggling t...

A feeling of power

What a tiring day yesterday was. Up at 4:45am, breakfast and then a drive down to Cheltenham, fortunately missing the worst of the M6 rush hour traffic between the M54 and M5 junctions. I was in Cheltenham as we have an associate from the University of ...
