Hospital exercise

Hi, anyone reading this. Arrived in hospital today to get a stem cell transplant for leakaemia. Not certain whether i will be able to do any sort of exercise during my expected 6 week stay here but i am fairly certain doing something like the Squat Challenge that i have taken up will be some sort of motivation to keep things going. I have recently completed the 10 mile challenge which i completed in an hour and 58 minutes and after training extensively for that i now find that i will not be able to run again for some time. I hope to be able to do some exercise during the treatment i receive in hospital so i will try and stay positive during my stay. Looks like i will be getting 9 days of progressively intensive chemotherapy to start with to kill off my immune system and whatever remains of my bone marrow. I have had chemo at another hospital before coming to this one for 10 months, but this is the only hospital here that does stem cell transplants. Anyway, let's see how i get on.

Hospital Exercise - 33

Another day at the hospital to see what is happening with my bloods and see if there are any problems as a result. An early visit, 0830 again to make sure i could park in their underground car park. It would appear if you arrive after around 0915 then y...

Hospital Exercise - 32

This is different - reporting from the outside about what is happening on the inside. It is a very good "different" though.  Got into the hospital for 0810 for an 0830 appointment. Signed in immediately and taken to the Day Care Ward of the Oncology De...

Hospital Exercise - 31

Just to advise that i have finally left the hospital. Got given the ok to go from the Doctor just before 1000. Got given several packs of dressing changes for my Hickmann Line which i understand is likely to be staying with me until the hospital are hap...

Hospital Exercise - 30

Big drop in weight overnight of 2 kg which put me at 69.0 kg first thing this morning. Some definition coming onto my feet and legs now, and yesterdays horrible wobbly bits have disappeared. All bloods are still progressing in the right direction: white...

Hospital Exercise - 29

Well i have spent the whole night without being hooked up to the drip machine and weight this morning shows 71.0 kg. There is still more water / drugs to come out but there is a significant difference in the size of my lower legs and feet. I can begin t...

Hospital Exercise - 28

Having a starting weight yesterday of 73.8 kg, and having been on frusemide for a good bit of the day i was more than surprised to see that my weight this morning was down to 71.4 kg. This is 0.6 kg less than when i came into hospital. Even more surpris...

Hospital Exercise - 27

Another night of hair falling out as there is more on the sheet and pillow today than there was yesterday. Bloods are still going up - white cells 1.4, neutrophils 1.0, haemoglobin 8.9, platelets 40. Another  morning and some of the afternoon on the fru...

Hospital Exercise - 25

Day +14. Blood results turned up earlier than yesterday - white cells 0.5, neutrophils 0.3, haemoglobin 8.3, platelets 21. All increases on yesterday apart from HB, but it appears we have found the platelets again. Had a go with the frusemide again this...

Hospital Exercise - 24

Today has been somewhat eventful. Started with the usual hanging up of different drip bags and then the Doctors turned up and advised that my platelet count was still below 10 so i would be getting another bag of them. Haemoglobin still 8.3 as yesterday...

Hospital Exercise - 23

Today was more of a drip day than anything else. Started with a magnesium drip as well as the usual anti-rejection drug drips. Then another bag of platelets. Today when the Doctors came round they repeated that they haf seen the feet anf lower leg swell...

Hospital Exercise - 22

Had to take the numbing mouthwash before breakfast but apart from that meal it was not necessary to use it again for other meals. It turned into another frusemide day, in and out of the loo as weight gone back up to 75.2 kg. Also got a bag of blood as h...

Hospital Exercise - 21

Certainly a better start to the day than yesterday. Today is day + 10. White cells and neutrophils still showing zero so no immune system. I could still feel whatever it was that could not be seen at the back of my throat when i got up this morning  so...

Hospital Exercise - 20

Today did not start off very well but looks as though it is going to finish being quite a bit better. Day plus 9. The white tongue which i have been waking up to for the past day or two has finally shown itself for what it really is. It looks worse tha...

Hospital Exercise - 19

Firstly - answer to Kats question - i have been advised that it will be somewhere between 2 to 3 weeks from the transplant, day zero, that the donor stem cells will start to kick in. They can't say any more than that because everyone is different. Today...

Hospital Exercise - 18

Today started off unusually - when i got up my tongue had turned white. There was no scraping it off with the opposite side of a toothbrush either. Nurse started me on stronger mouth washes than i have used up to now. Blood results show haemoglobin belo...

Hospital Exercise - 17

Yesterdays experience with Frusemide is definitely a day job. You do not want to be doing that overnight. The result of the days constant trips to the loo was 5.9 litres of wee. for what last night was a loss of 2 kg in weight. Somehow overnight i manag...

Hospital Exercise - 16

Today the main focus apart from the usual anti rejection drips etc being fed into me is to get rid of some of the excess fluid in my feet and lower legs. Early after breakfast around 0830 i was given a tablet form of something called Frusemide. This is ...

Hospital Exercise - 15

Day plus 4.  Blood results from early morning show haemoglobin 7.8 so i will be getting a bag of that today as the hospital want 8.0 or over. Neutrophils down to 0.5 and i'm told they will continue to drop. Todays Doctor walked in just after i had finis...

Hospital Exercise - 14

Good that things have calmed down a bit now that the chemo part of all this finished. Still getting swollen feet and lower legs due to the amount of liquid i am drinking and all the liquids which are being fed into me via drips over the whole day. Just ...

Hospital Exercise - 13

Got up just before 0800 today which was a bit late compared to my usual 0730. Felt a bit gaga and fuzzy headed, but then who wouldn't considering the amount of drugs being dripped into me on and off during each day. Some of the anti rejection stuff is p...

Hospital Exercise - 12

Day plus 1. For starters it feels great to have finished the chemotherapy side of things. Still hooked up to all the anti this and anti that drugs. Got two bags of blood today as my Haemoglobin level was down to 6.0 and they want it above 8.0  Thought t...

Hospital Exercise - 11

Started off the day with no news of the stem cells whereabouts. Just before 1000 got a message through the nurse to say the stem cells were coming in on a flight from Europe landing at Dublin around 1100. By the time they would clear airport and get che...
