London Marathon 2016
After around 10 applications, I finally managed to secure a ballot place for 2016! I have run the London Marathon once before in 2014 when I ran for RAFA and raised over £2000 but I was disappointed with my time of 5 hours 3 minutes and hope to improve on this next time.

Hi All
Just a quick post this morning before Jim, Caitlin and I head off to Bath for the Half Marathon tomorrow.
Unfortunately I've had to pay a couple visits to my fantastic osteopath Sally Blythe as firstly I had dreadful neck and shoulder ache a co...
I was advised by an experienced marathon runner from the Axe Valley Runners (who'll be completing her 25th marathon when she runs London this year), that to manage a marathon you ought to be able to do 13 miles by the end of January, 17 by the end of Fe...
Since my last blog I am pleased to report that I seem to have got on top of the blister problem. After doing some research online and taking advice from here I have -
a) Bought myself a pair of Ron Hill Twin Skin socks.
b) Been rubbing my feet with su...
So since my last blog at the beginning of January things have been going pretty well on the training front. The MyAsics training plan takes pride of place on the fridge and so far I've managed to stick to it. It's a basic plan involving 3 runs a week ...
Hi everyone
I've managed to secure a ballot place for 2016 after running the London Marathon in 2014 for the charity RAFA. I managed to raise just over £2000 for the charity RAFA but was disappointed with my time of 5hrs and 3 minutes.

So I've done it! Yesterday I fulfilled a lifelong ambition to run the London Marathon and had an amazing (but difficult) experience.
I set off from Pen 9 and it took 18 minutes to cross the start line. Around mile 3, someone on the side of the road s...
Morning everyone. After waking at 6am I thought I may as well get up as there was very little chance of getting back to sleep with my head swimming with thoughts about the big day.
This will be my last blog post until I've finished the marathon as I'...
With 10 days to go I'm nervous, excited, trying desperately not to catch any bugs or illnesses and avoiding injuries and accidents.
I took the advice of people on here and only did 13.1 miles last Saturday instead of the planned 15. I ran around the un...
Well my plan to run two ten mile laps with different running friends worked a treat and I managed to do 21 miles last Saturday. I felt pretty good and was really chuffed with myself. I had 3 people accompanying me on the first lap and 3 different peop...
Hi everyone,
Well there were times back in January when I had terrible knee problems, that I wondered if I would ever get to the stage of running 19 miles. But thanks to the support of my running pal Dave Russell I managed it last Saturday. I have to ...
Hi all
It's been a good couple of weeks. Last Sunday I did the Bideford Half Marathon and got a PB in 2hrs 8 mins. It was undulating for the first half along the road towards Torrington but the 2nd half back along the Tarka Trail was lovely and flat. ...
After the 12.5 mile run that I wrote about in my last blog, I was feeling a bit down in the dumps as I found it quite hard and was exhausted for a couple days after.
Since then, things have improved and I ran my furthest distance last Saturday morning...
Hi everyone,
I had a good week last week despite having to dodge the wind and rain and managed 4 runs totalling 28 miles.
On Monday I went back to running club and did 5 miles, then Wednesday went out and did 6.4 miles on my own. I was really annoyed...
Well after visits to the osteopath about my poorly knees, resting, icing, massaging etc etc I have managed an enjoyable 8 mile run last weekend and a not so enjoyable 10.5 mile run yesterday evening.
Living in the south west, the weather has been atroci...
Firstly I must tell you all about a brilliant book I read in one day over Christmas called "Running Like a Girl" by Alexandra Heminsley. It's all about Alex and how she got into marathon running with tips and guidance at the end. It was really funny...
Oh dear... everything was going so well.... I ran a half marathon last September, was following my training plan religiously and ran 11.5 miles just before Christmas, survived a week of skiing without injury until.....

Hi everyone
I'm safely back from skiing in Tignes with no injuries thank goodness. We had a brilliant time and enjoyed loads of snow and a great choice of ski runs. I very rarely want to go back to the same place twice when I go on holiday but Tignes...
Hi everyone
Sorry not to have updated for over 2 weeks, but just like everyone else at this time of year I've been busy with work, Christmas shopping, wrapping presents, writing cards, a little bit of housework etc....as well as trying to fit in running...
Well I've had a good week both running and fundraising.
I've run 4 times, including a speed training session, sprinting along the seafront with the Wednesday running club group. It involved 8 repetitions of sprinting and then recovering for a couple m...
It's been a busy couple of weeks with an average of around 20 miles each week spread over 3 runs. Caitlin (my 16 year old daughter) decided she wants to get back into running and has joined me on a Saturday run, doing 5 miles of my 10 mile run. We've ...
Hi everyone - this week I did my first ever early morning run to see what it's like! I set my alarm for 6am on Thursday morning and was out the door by about 6.20am. I had prepared all my kit the night before and ate half a banana and had a small glas...
The last week of half-term whizzed by mainly due to me having the cake sale on Thursday after school. I made the majority of cakes but enlisted the help of my Mum who made nearly 100 and some Mums and colleagues from school. In total we raised £159 wh...
