Hooray I'm having a Mid-Life Crisis!
I'm training for next years VLM and Windsor Triathlon. Both will be a first for me!! I do a fair bit of running (half marathons) and sportive bike rides (100k). Swimming will be my weakness but i'm determined to try my best and do well.

This has been a full week..and I feel knackered.
Managed to squeeze in two training runs around Virginia Water Lake and two sessions at the pool before a busy weekend.
So yesterday was my first attempt at a triathlon. It was a sprint tri at Dorney Lake ...
I have now gone 11 days without running which is probably some sort of record for me over the last few years. The cold I picked up last week just wouldn't shift, and the calf pain that came on after London has still been lingering about. So with the col...
A bit of a mixed week really. Started off with a 12.5 mile bike ride on Monday evening which felt pretty good despite a strong headwind for about 3 miles. I was averaging around 19mph until the wind hit...then this guy rode past me like he had a tail wi...
A week of reflection after VLM, the first part of my 2012 personal challenge is over. I hung up the trainers for a week and took to the pool to continue preparing for my next challenge, my first triathlon. All of a sudden the Windsor Triathlon doesn't s...
That was one of the most amazing experiences of my life!! It didn't feel like it at the time though. I have heard so many great things about the London marathon and they are all true. The organisation of the event is second to none, the support around t...
My last blog before the big day and to be honest I don't have much of an update because I have not run since last Sunday!! My lower legs have been feeling achy all week and I was starting to get a bit worried I had picked up an injury but thankfully the...
I think I may be taking this tapering stage a bit too far. This week I have run a measly 12 miles. My legs have still been a bit achy after last weeks half marathon and I even went as far as buying a foam roller.
Yesterday I went for a quick run around ...
This week I managed to get a few runs in and focused on speedwork..by Friday calling it 'speed' would have been exaggerating quite a bit. I therefore decided to have a rest on Saturday before todays Reading Half Marathon...and a good plan that was.
Toda...
OK, so today was my last scheduled long run before the 22nd of April. And what a day for it!
I headed out at 8am to do my 21.25 mile course around Windsor Park and felt great from the start. I had the usual porridge and toast about 45 mins before I sta...
It's been a pretty good week for training. A couple of 6.5 miles runs and 21.25 miles today with swim sessions in between on a couple of days.
Todays 21.25 mile run was a bit of a revelation. I decided right from the start that I wouldn't be going off a...
After a reality check last week with my long run I just haven't been able to find the time to get out much this week, mainly because of work. Hopefully things will improve this week, especially as the evenings are getting lighter.
Today was Silverstone ...
A better mileage week this week, but performance wise awful. I appear to have lost my running mojo at the moment.
Monday was a short 3.2 mile recovery run after last Sundays bike ride and run. Heavy legs for 3 miles...isn't this supposed to get easier!!...
What a beautiful day! It's like spring is here early.
I had planned to do a long run today (21 miles) but I have come down with another cold. This is my second one since starting training back in October. I've been taking extra strength vitamin C but it...
I chose the last week to have a lower mileage week. Last Monday I ran my usual 5.6 mile route, nothing great as it was more of a recovery run after the 21miles last Sunday. I didn't have any problems from the hip pain which was reassuring. It seems to o...
Well today I went beyond what I thought I could physically (and mentally) do. I ran 21.25 miles!! I wasn't too worried about the time coz I knew it was really icy in places but still managed it in 2hrs 50mins and 55secs.
It was quite a strange sensation...
Well i'm posting early this week coz I have a feeling I wont be out running tomorrow. I'm not a keen snow runner, I did it last year and aggravated an old knee injury....which took months to fully mend. Will probably sit tight and wait for the thaw....p...
Well January is almost over and I have run 119 miles for the month with two days to go. This is the most I have ever run in one month so feeling very pleased with myself.
Scheduled long run today of 18 miles. It was perfect conditions here in Berkshire,...
I've had a pretty good week of training. Managed to complete 6 runs and two swim sessions in the last 7 days. I'm mixing up the training with easy, steady, interval and long runs and am definitely feeling the benefits. I took a couple of different marat...
What a great day for running! Ok a little windy but after the last week it was beautiful this morning. After a break of two days from running I decided to go for a long run this morning. I did swim for an hour last night and my legs felt like new this m...
Nearly a month since my last post and we have had Xmas, New Year and i'm another year older all good excuses for drinking far too much alcohol. But...I was very disciplined this year and despite a couple of lapses I didn't drink that much.
In the last m...
I still haven't shaken this cold but I went for a run this afternoon. Managed to run around Virginia Water lake (4.2 miles) in 29 mins 29 secs and felt pretty good. My legs felt very fresh after such a long lay off and the first mile was the quickest I ...
Finally!! Today I have a streaming cold and strangely enough I am glad and relieved. At least this means I should be OK in the next couple of days and can start training again...this has been a long couple of weeks. Despite feeling rubbish I was still d...
This is so frustrating. It has now been eight days since I have been out for a run. I just can't seem to shake this virus. Sometimes I feel like i'm getting a cold then it turns into mild flu symptoms. I don't want to risk going out in the cold and maki...
I shouldn't feel too bad because I have been sticking to my plan well up until this week but I didn't go for a run last night and I skipped my swim tonight. I just haven't been feeling right the last couple of days. The kids were both off school last we...
