Swimspiration, Channelling Adventures and the odd Ironman

What is this blog about??   Lifelong ambition, pushing limits and a living life to the full.

An all or nothing kind of girl, stumbling between many adventures over the years and always seeking the next of life's little thrills....

In 2013 I took up triathlon, doing nothing more than a few sprints, and then several more this year and a couple of olympic distances.  For any who don't know a lot about triathlon - it ranges from sprint consisting of 400m swim, 20km, cycle and 5km run to Ironman distance 3.8k swim, 180km cycle and 42km run - there is of course Enduro challenges which, well we just won't go there..... yet!!

Having fallen back in love with swimming, my next two years are pretty well mapped out.....   You see swim had been avoided after an accident in the late 70's - not swim related but leaving scars which now could easily pass as a sharks knashers around my leg (not attractive as a teenager)!

So what am I doing now, aside from rambling on and whiling away a Sunday when I probably should be training......

22-26 June 2015 I have organised a Cross Channel Relay Team.  Swimming 22 miles in the world's busiest shipping lane for likely to be 14/15 hours - I'm amazed I could find a further 5 people who thought that this sounded like fun and were willing to take their turn in this swim relay for this first of my major challenges.  There does seem to be a lot of nutty people in Yorkshire, or maybe I just attract them....

26 July 2015will see me enduring my first Ironman distance triathlon The Outlaw hopeful that all the swimming practice I am going to get will start me off with a real flyer on the swim.  Many triathletes dread this bit, and having completed the swim this year with a couple of other crazy ladies as a relay team - I really don't really relish the thought of too much time spent in the goose-poo filled waters of the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.  My saving grace in this race is that it's flat, moreso than those branded IM races, though might just have to do one of those too - looking now at before I'm 60, as before I'm 50 is pretty full!

22-28 September 2016 my epic challenge of all challenges, a seed planted many many years ago growing into reality Solo English Channel Swim  - still a bit shell-shocked that I've actually booked this one..... (what was I saying about attracting nutty people before?)  Still the deed is done, so theres no turning back now...

People ask if who am I doing this for??  Right now, just me!  No fundraising for the moment, thats another dimension of responsibility and added pressure, although I must say possible a good motivator when the going gets tough.  I'll give it some thought, but really my mind needs to be focussed on training hard, sleeping well, and what best to eat/drink to warm up after chilly swims, tough runs on dark wintry evenings and sweaty turbo sessions in the garage.
