Do you want to see your kids grow up?
In 2004, at 42 I had a stroke. I suffered temporary paralysis, 10 days in hospital and all the fright that came with it. I then lost three stone, got fit and took up running. Many 10k's and half marathons plus 2 marathons later my running career has come to halt because of a self inflicted, chronic Achilles tendon injury.
Having quickly put 2.5 stone back one, I am frightened that another stroke maybe just around the corner and only have to ask my self one question..............Do I want to see my kids grow up?
Until the Achilles decides to behave itself, this is my attempt at losing weight and getting fit again...without running
Please help me I need it!

Probably my last blog on this thread for a while as I will be transfering to the VLM 2010 thread as soon as it opens.
A beautiful day around here today. I played cricket and we lost but I managed 22 of our 138 total and more surprizing my ankle/achilles...
I used the car today for work to get rid of a load of recycling stuff at work which meant depite the lovely day again, it was the gym for me. 55 minutes later I realised how unfit I really am at the moment, but it made think a bit more about a plan for ...
Another lovely day today. I had meant to have a short lunch and leave early for a big gym session but remembered a work colleague was retiring today after 44 years at the University of Hull. 44 years, you get less for murder!
Therefore I did a 45 minute...
I have been off since 9th April and the return to work today was not easy! I managed a 65 k bike ride on Easter Sunday and nothing else untill 26 k today. Well nothing if you don't count decorating our hallway upstairs and down for four days plus four d...
I managed a quick 17 k's Friday morning with my expected hangover and sweated some of it out, made Fish n Chips for 4 (Karen does not like Fish!) before returning to the pub about 11.15 for a "loosener" before the big match.
We should have won by 20 poi...
6 days since I lasted posted and the days fly by! Finishing today from work at 12.30 and return on Wednesday 22nd! Manic week trying to clear my desk and a manic few days ahead.
Exercise wise I have managed 83 K cycling since Monday but I will still be ...
After sulking on Tuesday, I have lagged behind with my mileage all week, but now its sorted. 70K total at the end of Thursday became 100K on Friday, mainly due to the 26k i fitted in at lunch time.
I had a night out with Karen last night with friends an...
A beauty of a day made me double up yesterday, to make up for Tuesday. I got through about 26 k's biking at lunch and throughly enjoyed it. After work, 4k rowing, 4k cycling, 10 minutes achilles stretches then 15 minutes X-trainer. No running as the ach...
I rather sulked a bit yesterday, the achilles wasn't very good and dragged me down with it! When 12 noon came along, instead of sorting the gym bag out, I convinced myself I had too much work on and ate my lunch instead! No exercise at all yesterday.
Ne...
Of the bike kind! Since I got this bike and the kind bods in the Chemistry Department workshop fixed the bike computer that came with it, I have become a bit reliant on it. I set off Saturday about 4.15 intending to do the 35K I needed to get my 100 mil...
The weather behaved itself yesterday though I hadn't realised how windy it was! The outward section of about 10-12 k's I flew along, the inbound section I crawled! My total for four days stands at 101 k's. The wind is worse today so I am kind of going t...
Rain forcast this morning (it is raining now!) clearing into the afternoon. Cycling is like running, rain wise. I don't mind getting a bit wet when I am out (prefer not to obviously) but I don't like to start out in it, how about you?
Big (for me anyway...
So what have I done? Cannot really remember, so you can have the short version (thank goodness you say?)
Karen says I am becoming as obsessed with cycling as I did with running, I say I am just obsessed with staying healthy?
By the time I reached 6 pm y...
Lovely morning, the little breeze there was, was on the cool side. 16 K yesterday and another 34 K this morning takes me to 162 k's for the week. Unfortunately all of them on bike, not running.
Time to take a shower before preparing Sunday lunch then of...
A certain Mr Brian Anderson would probably tell you there are no excuses for missing training (Death possibly a decent excuse but only possibly) and with that in mind I got myself to work very early yesterday morning so that I could finish early enough ...
Life got in the way of exercise yesterday, I won't bore you with the full story, but I did manage 19K on the bike, so I am a little down on my required mileage to date this week. And I felt unwell last night.
I had a "pressure headache". I have never su...
Bike ride. This morning the weather varied between blue sky and big black shower clouds. Come 12.15 the clouds were threatening but it would'nt have stopped me if I was running, so out I went.
I don't like starting in rain but don't much mind getting we...
I only wish it was running! Sunday went pretty much to plan up to 2 pm when I needed to be setting off on my bike for Hull KR v Wakefield. At 2 pm, hail storm arrives and so I go in car....and by 2.15 it is sunny again! Never mind, Rovers won 31-18 and ...
Busy day so far, a couple of hours cleaning the house this morning whilst Karen shopped and Katie danced. Later whilst Karen did some errands in town I took the girls to park via the chippy (for lunch) Swings, Slides, climbing frames, feed ducks, buy ic...
Lovely sunshine, with just a touch of coolness in the breese, perfect for the Friday Cottingham 5 miler of old I thought glumly. Despite this and actually seeing 6 of the Uni ladies setting off for said run, I did quite enjoy my gym session.
10 mins war...
Real quickie, because its 10.15 pm. 4 days into my biking week and I am up to 88k for the week. I managed 20k on the the static bike yesterday in the gym plus 10 minutes achilles streches, 20 minutes rowing and 20 minutes x-trainer, so pretty good for m...
21.5 k's of biking yesterday, tick!
Today my legs were tired (well I've done a bit recently), the weather's got cold again and rain was forcast, could I be arsed today? No. If I was training for a running race, the training would have got done today so ...
Mrs Rudd says I have autistic tendancies.
I decided this week I would try and bike 10 miles (16K) every day, but on top of the 3.4 K return journey I bike to and from work each day anyway. So round it up to 20 K a day? So I did it every day this week, m...
........so says Andaz, check his comments on my last blog! He is from Newcastle, so obviously hell is that bit closer to Geordieland and they know all about it, it will be full of them (Geordies), keeping the seats warm?
Last night was a struggle, in ad...
