The Run Diary

I'm still a baby in the running world. I've been training on and off since the beginning of 2013 and I ran a 5K and 10K that year. I'm currently training myself back up for BUPA 10K and hoping to beat my PB at Race For Life this year. Sorry if I moan a lot, I assure you I do love running really!

No more excuses, it's time to...

My relationship with running this year has been rocky, to say the least. I really got into it again then I got out of it, then I did enough running to say I wasn't completely given up, then I gave up. I keep wondering what it was last year that kept me ...

Back to it - slowly but surely.

What I wish I'd known before I started 're-training' for BUPA 10K this year: you don't really start from scratch.  I've been telling myself since I stopped running in October that I will get back into it but I'll be right back at the beginning where I w...

A cry for help!

Well, not so much help as advice. So, I got caught up in everything since my first 10K race almost two months ago and can count the runs I've done since on one hand (make that one finger). A complete disaster. I got sick and injured and then before I kn...

Imposed rest

I was amazed at how quickly I recovered from my first 10k race this week. I went for a gentle walk the next day to loosen my calves and the day after I woke up with not a single pain to speak of. I felt super proud because I knew it meant I'd trained we...

Achievement unlocked: 10K

Today was the big day! My first ever 10K race! I had seen the forcast so I was prepared for the downpour we experienced before and during. When I say 'we' I am refering to myself and my family who came along to support me and it was them I was worried a...

First race nerves!

Having read extensively on the subject of tapering I have come to the conclusion that there is no right or wrong so I'm taking charge and doing what I think is right for me. My first 10K race is next Sunday and despite how well my training has been goin...

Two Milestones :)

I wanted to write this while I was still buzzing with excitement earlier but sadly I'm doing it while very tired (but still equally as excited just without the energy to show it).  Looking at my stats for today's run I'd go as far as to say I look like ...

Feeling inspired!

Firstly I want to say a huge well done to all those who took part in half marathons this weekend! You guys are truly brilliant! Secondly, while I was watching the Great North Run on telly, stuffing my face with left over pizza from the night before, I f...

New trainers and soon a new hip?

When I started running at the beginning of this year I thought it was a simple case of doing it and then doing it again until I improved. Now, of course, I'm seeing that you actually go one step forwards and two steps back sometimes. It's doesn't always...

"I give up" #1

After last week's satisfactory improving of distance I had, by contrast, an abysmal time running this week. I clocked up an embarrassing 7 miles on three runs (with one of my runs measuring just over a mile and I didn't even run it all) and each of my r...

The running bug is back!

Thank the lord because my mojo has returned, my motivation is in record levels and I'm back out running. I managed to up my runs last week to 2 (next week I shall get it back to 3) and I'm sat here feeling all antsy because I want to go again already! T...

I'll do that 10K even if I wa...

I've spent more time thinking about running than actually doing it lately. I've only fit in 3 runs this month (one per week) and each time it seems to get harder. Today was a weird one. I was walking in less than a mile and continued to take these walki...

The Best Run Ever!

Finally, after a month of finding excuses and ignoring people's encouragements I've been out running again! And, I must say, it was one of the best exeriences of running I've ever had. Not more than five minutes out the door the heavens opened and the r...

Oh the shame!

As I write is I am feeling a deep pang of guilt but I'm doing it in the hope that it will shame me enough to take action. The fact is that I haven't run for four weeks now! The excuses I've been giving are these:  The first week I was really ill, the se...

Iron(deficient)woman

I've been feeling really tired lately. Like, falling asleep in the afternoons tired but I'm still fitting in my runs. This week I did really struggle, though, and it wasn't just the heat. I figured at first it was down to the junk I've been eating latel...

I hate running unless I am ru...

I think I have a bit of a love-hate relationshhip with running. I ask myself why I want to go before each run and I usually end up saying "Because I have to" either because I'm stubborn and want to prove I can be good at it or because I feel I've invest...
