Running like a Cyclist

I did the lots of exercise and competative motorcycle racing as a child then teenager....ok so the compeative side never went away..

followed by the years of doing nothing...putting on weight and pointing at "the strange people" that were out running or cycling when there were "better things" to be doing.

then...losing weight, running a bit, cycling a bit, getting fitter....

then a little loss of that but keeping up the cycling as I found running harder and not so "my thing"...

Well I know that running helps me lose weight, helps me keep that weight off and makes me a better cyclist, and a fitter person.....so I'm back...

After not running for over a year I've decided to start running again.

Snowdonia 2015 - A Bus Driver...

This time last week, Jane and I were getting the final bits and pieces together before heading off to collect the Buzzers Bus…ready for our weekend in Snowdonia, the scene for Janes’ 7th Marathon. I think it is safe to say that, Snowdonia 2015 was the...

Snowdon Buzzers Bus is a go!!!

Ok. Having read all the replies and trying to work things out, I've decided on a tactic that Mandy took last year....I'm taking the "Buzzers Bus" on a tour of the marathon; this is what we have decided to name our hired motor home for the weekend. 😆 Bas...

Snowdon Marathon - Supporter ...

Hey all, as many of you know, I usually spend a Marathon charging between pre-arranged viewing spots to cheer Jane on, make sure she has gels, water, drinks etc; typically 3 or 4 spots around the course. After visiting, and riding around, the Snowdon ro...

Is that a Marathon?????....na...

As per recent marathons Jane has entered, we decided that a free weekend meant a reccy of Snowdon was on the cards, and an opportunity for me to do a bit of interesting cycling, last minute plans were made…. Change on the train on way home, Friday eveni...

Bank Holiday Weekend

Just when you think there are no more blogs two come along at once. Following my last blog I thought I add the adventures of the Bank Holiday weekend just gone. A group of friends all have fit bits and there is a healthy amount of rivalry for heading th...

Contentment, the ultimate goal.

Forgive the rather nostalgic sentiment of this blog. I flit in and out of here keeping track now and then and rarely post, so selfishly I wanted to get this down here, more for myself than anything else….a reminder now and for years to come. Walking fro...

Brighton Marathon through the...

This may not be of interest to all but I wanted to write about the Brighton Marathon, as many of you have, but from the point of view of the partner of a RealBuzzer running the event. It has become a very long blog, as Carlsberg would say possibly the l...

What happens when you date a ...

it's been a while since I've blogged. Work and home life have been busy; holidays, moving, big projects at work and being sociable, all take time. I have done some cycling but haven't even uploaded my garmin data from that yet :-(. There was some consid...

A picture tells a thousand st...

So, the St Albans park run of August 9th 2014 passes in to legend, as so many of the amazing Buzzers who attended have already described in their blogs. As my actual run was sooooo disappointing I've decided to look at things a different way... Maybe I ...

Have the tables turned?

I was starting to think that I should stop blogging about mini duathlons. Weekly updates on something that could go on for some time would get a tad boring to read…especially as my suspicions have always been it will be Jane way out in front…as she righ...

Got to be in it to win it!

I just had to write and update on a particular subject. DUATHLON!! They say you have to be in it to win it...or...lose it :-) As Jane has so beautifully penned previously, our Duathlon Challenge is 2 - 0 to Jane...or Mark never really turned up before, ...

Around and Around we go..wher...

06:30 this morning the alarm went off.....seriously...it's Sunday. Cycling clothes had been laid out the night before, bikes prepared and loaded in the car ready to go, all to save time and effort so early in the morning. Breakfast, coffee and off we se...

Back in the Saddle.

Despite all of your encouragement for last week, much appreciated, I took the decision not to take part in the Silverstone Duathlon. Aches were still pretty constant and I couldn’t risk adding to the injury, or the unsympathetic response from work shoul...

Doing a Froome?

So, as I typed my blog first thing Tuesday morning, I had a dull ache "somewhere blokes don't like dull aches". I'd cycled hard on Saturday and sometimes that happens, no biggie, no point mentioning it in the blog. However, an increasingly painful day ...

Can't get in to it :-( / Sub-...

As with my blogging, running has been sparse of late. Apart from the run with Jane and Roxy, which was two runs separated by a nice coffee, I've done nothing. Even with next week’s Silverstone challenge looming upon me, I find it hard to get out there a...

If it wasn't for that pesky dog

First off, blogging and training have both been sadly lacking of late. Commitments and a lack of drive affecting the later.  I did, however, head out for a run yesterday with Roxy and Jane, hence the title of this blog. (Scooby doo ref) A short, slow, t...

How did they do it?

I had an alternative title for this post: "It's more about them than me!" Walking to work Monday I noticed what is best described as a niggle behind my left knee. Didn't hurt as such and was difficult to describe but it was there...still there Tuesday w...

First park run done.

Today saw my park run debut, following the challenge set by MR HOLLYWOOD.  I think it is best summed up by saying, I did it.  i found it tough, tougher than I'd hoped, slower than I'd hoped, but I finished it. When all is said and done this was my secon...

Plan? What plan?

Well, I'd worked out a nice little training plan to get me gradually back up to 5k, ready for my park run debut this coming Saturday, with some Realbuzz legends.  hmm, work, bad weather and a whole bunch of other good excuses have been in the way. Since...

Remembering the Mind Games

Forgive me as this rambles on a LOT…possibly rivalling a recent Marc Philips blog….but I think, I hope, a significant point has been reached…again. On Tuesday evening I was on my way home from work with running on my mind. You have to run I told myself,...

Steady as she goes

Another week where the training didn't happen as planned, due to weather and the like....but Last night I did manage to get out for a short run. 1K at speed (very happy with a 5.29K) Followed by 1K of interval running, 250M walk, 250M fast run Followed ...

Sussing out the Park Run

Let me start by saying this weekend was sooooo not how I used to spend my bank holiday weekends. Up at 6:45 on Saturday, yes 6:45 on a bank holiday weekend….memories of calling runners and cyclists nutters when I used to pass them in my car returned… ye...

Do drunk miles count for more?

Ok so plans went a tad wrong this week. Working backwards, last nights planned interval running didn't happen, just too wet and miserable...negative :-( On the positive side I went out with friends from work Wednesday and had a glass of wine too many......

Interval Training (Running)

Thoughts of running or cycling at the weekend were swiftly overtaken by building one of the worlds largest gazebo's from solid wood... Although I'm sure the many many trips up and down step ladders, stading on tip toe whilst holding a drill at arms leng...
