My first half marathon

I have been running sporadically on and off for about seven years, but since discovering parkrun in December 2011 I have, for the first time, kept at it. Needless to say, my parkrun time has gone from a slow and steady 28.30, to a more brisk 24.03, and I hope to get it down even further. 10k races have gone from being a challenging nerve-inducing experience to an event I wouldn't really think twice about taking part in. Although I have a constant goal to reduce my 10k PB, I thought it was time I spread my wings and enter a half marathon - the East London half on the 14th April. I have joined a gym, printed out a 12 week training schedule, started watching what I'm eating, downloaded a GPS training app on my phone, started to see stretching as compulsory... I'm taking it seriously, but so far I am loving the training. I am currently on week 5 of my schedule and sticking to it. My longest run so far has been 8 miles (my longest run ever!) so it's going to be a challenging few weeks getting up to the infamous 13.1 miles. So, I'm hoping this blog can motivate me (and others?) as I track my progress over the next seven weeks up to the big day. Wish me luck :)

Midweek update

Hello fellow runners. My Richmond 10k didn't go as well as I expected. From kilometer 2 I was already struggling. My last few 10ks have been flat and I think it was a shock to the system to be tackling hills, even if they were only small. It was very co...

My first blog entry

Richmond 10k tomorrow so legs are having a rest today! Running it with my partner (his first 10k) so it is unlikely to be a PB but we shall see - he is surprisingly speedy for a newbie! Have been running the Regent's Park 10k winter series that takes pl...
