Just Keep Running

I'm a part time runner and always looking for the next challenge - I enjoy doing something a bit different and seeing how far I can push myself. I never really ran much as a kid and I did my first marathon about 8 years ago and have run 6 since and then my first 50 mile ultra. Then I completed 7 marathons over 7 days culminating with VLM2015.

The next challenge (June 2016) is a 24HR endurance race where I hope to run 100 miles or more.

Oh No Toe!

I’m writing this with 6 weeks to go before Endure 24 and I was hoping to tell you how I’d got on at the Fox Ultra last month. Unfortunately, I couldn’t race as I broke my little toe!  This has really set me back and means April was actually 2 runs less ...

Marching On

Ok so March has been a funny month – massive improvements in my distance covered and bagged a few long runs which I really needed to start doing. However, I’ve also had to travel a lot with work which has made it difficult to get the volume of runs in t...

How did I end up here?

5:30am. 5 miles from home. Cold, dark and raining. I have no energy – I can barely walk let alone run. I’m really annoyed – I’ve only been going 7 miles – this should be an easy run for me. Do I call home, wake everyone and get a lift, do I try and flag...

January Update

Hi everyone! Happy New Year and hope you are all still sticking tio those resolutions?! January has been a good month for me on the training front – I’ve started my early morning routine which is the preparation proper for Endure24 in June. This involve...

Further and faster!

So I've been doing a treadmill challenge for the last few months - trying to knock out 4 miles in 30 minutes with a 3 minute walk at the start. This is a particularly tough challenge cause it's a negative split and I'm doing it in my home gym (boiling h...

Back on Track!

Sorry it has been so long but I'm back! So basically since I was last on here I e become a dad again (Oliver now 6 weeks old and joins our 3 year old Emily.) I've also helped launch a new event for runners - www.nationalrunningshow.com and I've been wor...

Getting the old car running a...

So today was my first really enjoyable run since the injury - I'm still confining myself to the treadmill (hiding from the weather a bit ill admit) but after a particularly brutal weights session I managed to smash out 4 miles in 30 mins with relative e...

Rolling along

So I've been picking up the training a little - mainly confined myself to the treadmill given the weather at the moment but I'm comfortably knocking out sub-8 minute miles again. The only problem is I'm only doing about 3 or 4 each session so I really n...

Ricky Hatton runner

So for those of you who don't know him Ricky Hatton used to literally double in weigt between fights - and this is how I feel right now. Since the 7in7 I have taken quite a bit of time off with an injury and general lack of Training. Combine this with m...

Challenge accepted!

Ok so I've been a little quiet on here sorry about that but a few injuries have caused me to lay low for a bit. Unfortunately for my wife that means I've had plenty of time to search the Internet to find my next challenge and I've found one!  There is a...

Down but not out

Sorry it's been a while since I was last on here but I've not had much to report. Unfortunately whilst running to collect a ball in a charity cricket match a few weeks ago I pulled my hamstring which laid me out for a few weeks. To top this my Achilles ...

man versus train

So I'm back into a more normal routine this week and feeling no ill effects from the three peaks. I've clocked in a couple of cheeky 5k runs to keep my eye in but nothing serious in terms of training. We have quite a small house but have put a big shed ...

Three Peaks!

So we had a work challenge for the three peaks and I have to be honest I hadn't taken it that seriously thinking it was going to be relatively easy after the 7in7 - I went for only one training walk on Box Hill and figured that my legs had enough muscle...

Mountains!

So since my last post I've signed up for snowdonia and massive thanks to Marc who has sorted me a place. Im not really sure wha the race involves but I saw that you guts are all going for drinks afterwards so it sounded like my kind of run!! Nice to hav...

Morning run

So I was on holiday in Majorca last week and managed to get a run in, no map, no sense of direction and no water. Got a bit lost but eventually found my way back to our villa after spotting an old guy built like a mountain goat running down what appeare...

What next

sorry I've been quiet for a while on here but work has been pretty full on and I've been banned from running for a few weeks by the chiropodist that dealt with the carnage of my feet post 7in7! I'm finding it really frustrating not running but I'm start...

wow what an amazing day and my best run to date - I loved it today absolutely loved it - mainly because a few awesome people made the effort to help and hauled me on. I finished in 5:43 (garmin) or 5:56 (strava) but it breezed by and I feel in good shap...

4 for 4 and still alive

well today was a bit of a mixed bag! I've been up since 1 and made some really bad decisions which i blame on tiredness but is more likely plain stupidity! 😃 My mate John hooper was an absolute legend and ran the first half with me. We had great banter...

Marathon 3 - done!

I woke up today in agony - my right Achilles is twice the size of the left and my left knee doesn't bend. I was worried and failure seemed a genuine prospect for the first time. I was stood in the kitchen lookig worryingly at my ankles and my mum (who i...

2 down!

ok so they said it would be hard and I guess he real challenge starts now! My left knee is absolute agony and to compensate for this I was running with the road camber which meant ive also tweaked my Achilles On the right! That caused an incredibly slow...
