What next?

When I started this Blog I hated running. I had entered a 10K to push myself to get fit and I really didn't enjoy the training. In January 2008 I felt like things were finally starting to fall into place and I was beginning to enjoy it. I changed the name of the Blog from "10K challenge - ....I hate running!!!!" to "Half marathon Challenge '08 - Bring it on!!!". I managed to complete the half marathon in June but afterwards, I got a bit disillusioned and have not really ran much since. I'm trying to get back into it again and I think I need a new challenge to motivate me.

No posting but lots of running

I have not posted in over two weeks but that first post and plan meant I felt like I had to complete all my scheduled runs and I did! The first week was hard though. I managed two 20 min runs which were quite easy and enjoyable but the next run at 25 mi...

On track

Thanks for all your comments - it has really spurred me on and so I ran another 20 minutes today. I know it's not a long time but it's a start. I also managed by 5 mile cycle yesterday in 25 minutes but I could really feel it in my thighs and my run tod...

Running again???

After not really doing any running for 15 months except for the odd occasional 3 miles I have been generally unfit and find myself just working and being boring. Since my last blog I have taken on a promotion at work and moved house so I've not been ent...

Cold, beer and crap runs

After my 5 mile run on Thursday, I struggled to sleep Thursday night because of my cold. I found it easier to breathe running than trying to lie down!!! I didn't give in on Friday either as my cold was all in my head, so when i got home I went straight ...

What happens when you run wit...

I didn't run Monday night as I felt quite tired from my 8 miler on the Sunday. I went to the physio and she said I just had tight muscles on the outside of my knee and she gave me some stretches to so. She also indicated that if I strengthened my glut...

Beer and a LSR

Sorry, I’ve not managed to leave many comments but I’ve not had much time over the weekend. After finishing work on Friday night it was straight home, showered and then out to join a retirement night out. I know I said that I wasn’t going to drink a lot...

More running...

Firstly, for anyone who remembers NaomiN, she gave birth early this morning to a little girl. Mother and daughter are doing very well and I hope to see her at some point this weekend. On the running front, I did my 3 miles on Monday but it was rather i...

Two weeks in and still going....

Firstly, thanks for everyone's comments as they really do help to motivate me and i think my motivation is back on!!! Thursday's 3 milerwent well - no pain at all and it was quite enjoyable. It was slightly tough but then when I got home I had run this ...

Motivation waning

I heard on the news on Monday morning, that this is the time that most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions. I felt quite pleased with myself that my running was going strong and that my motivation was high. By Tuesday, and one painful calf la...

Calves are still a bit sore

I made sure I stretched my calves out as per the instructions from the Physio but they still felt quite tight today. However, when I got home I pulled on my running kit (obligatory tights of course) and went out for my 3 mile run. I'm still feeling moti...

I did it!

No alcohol consumed last night so I knew that I would be raring to go for my long run today. I checked the weather out yesterday and while it was going to be windy, rain was set to hit us at about 1pm. I planned to have a bit of a lie-in, but I wanted t...

3 mile run

Well, things are going really well this week. I did my 3rd run this week - 3 miles - and even did it 15s faster than Monday's run!! I'm just doing easy runs at the moment as I want to keep at it and I'm pleased I've not given up. Normally, i'm fed up by...

Running tights...

.....are fantastic. I LOVE them as they are warm and cosy and make winter running feel so good. I had sore thighs after my 3 mile run yesterday but I was still raring to go and so went out again after work. I did 4 miles in about 45 minutes and it was t...

1st run of 2009

I went for my 1st run of the new year tonight and even though it was less than one degree, it was absolutely fantastic! I forgot just how much I enjoyed running in the colder weather. I donned on my new winter running tights, a thermal top and then anot...

I need a goal/motivation/kick...

I definitely drank too much alcohol over Christmas and New Year and I now feel very, very sluggish and generally bleugh. I did NO exercise whatsoever and four days into 2009, I still haven't. This time last year I began to run in earnest and really enjo...

Not posted for a long while....

....but I've not really been doing that much. I managed to cycle to and from work (total 6 miles) for 5 consecutive weeks back in September/October but the running really hasn't been anything much at all. The difference between my infrequent runs now co...

Another run!

This morning it was pouring with rain but I donned on my cagoule and waterproof trousers and cycled into work. I actually arrived quite dry so it was worth it. I am really motivated at the moment and even went out for a quick run when I got home. It was...

Skye's Monster mania

Well, I read Skye Trekker's Monster post with relish and I got it into my head that it sounds like it would be fantastic and I'd love to be that fit. So, thinking, why the hell not go for it, i cycled home as fast as I could, dropped the bike in the gar...

Two runs this week

This week has been ok exercise-wise. I've managed to cycle to and from work every day, even in the rain which I'm pleased about although at the time it wasn't entirely pleasant. I've also managed two 4 mile runs. Not enough to be a serious runner but en...

Not much running

I've done nothing since the half marathon except relax and enjoy the warm evenings. I still can't believe that I did it. My last post said that I enjoyed running again, but since the half I have just not wanted to run at all. I am in awe of those...

Sunday

After Tuesday's enthusiastic "lunge" session, the next 3 days were spent hobbling around as my legs were very sore. So, I only managed one run last week at 5.6 miles. But, as I didn't have much pain at all, I decided that I was going to go for the half....

Numpty...

My run on Tuesday went well for the most part. I managed to climb a hill slope without any calf pain whatsoever - for the last few weeks this slope has coincided with calf pain - so the work from the Physio has clearly helped. The numb foot was a...

Physio

As suggested by many people - thanks to everyone - I phoned up a place about a sports massage. When I described my symptoms they told me it would be best to see a physio first. I saw a physio the other week who said I had tight calves and that there was...
