Getting the balance

By Louise (October 14th) ... My training schedule requires me to train up to 6 times a week and began in earnest back in early September.  I can talk for hours on runner’s world, hydration, electrolytes and heart rate.  I am at risk of becoming a marathon bore!!!!

My first event of my five is the Dubai Creek Striders half marathon on Friday 6 December.  It will begin at 6am and take in the sights of old Dubai including the souks, creek and Deira. I am hoping it’s a cool day for Dubai and if we can stay below 35C/ 100F that will be great.

Two years ago I trained for the same race and was literally living like a saint, I gave up the vino for 6 months, spent a lot of nights in, and was incredibly focused on my training.  Ten days before the half marathon my right calf seized up and left me out of the half marathon.  I was devastated but vowed to have another go and in 2013, it taught me the need to get the balance right.

We are undertaking a massive personal challenge but life outside running does go on.

Yesterday evening consisted of “Bake Off” final on IPlayer and bedtime at 8pm.  I was up at 5am this morning to train, running 20KM in heat of Dubai, the never ending cycle of washing Kit has been done, the shopping list completed and the visit to the mall accomplished – I think I deserve that glass of vino!!!
