By Louise ... On Friday 27 March I undertook my 4th challenge of my 5, the ABRaS Mina 10KM race. The race was in the grounds of the Mina Seyahi and Westin hotel and consists of 3 loops of a 3KM route. I have never run a race that requires a repetition of the route a number of times and certainly not within the grounds of a hotel.
I went into the event maybe a little bit overconfident as having been running plus half marathon distances since mid Feb in preparation for London my reasoning was a 10Km is a warm up. How hard could it be!!!!!!!!!
With my shin and knee K taped up as usual we began. I had underestimated the humidity and heat at 7am and at 7Km I wasn’t feeling quite so overconfident!!!
I was surprised at how this setback knocked my confidence and after the race I started to panic about the upcoming marathon.
I have been following a training plan which I tested for the half marathon and it worked for me, yes I have been injured but I have trained around my injury using non-impact training in place of shorter runs, I have completed all my weekly long runs and have a number of 30+ KM runs under my belt.
The outcome meant I placed a lot of pressure on myself with my training last week in preparation for my final long run of 32 KM . I didn’t sleep the night before and was up at 4am to complete a loop before the club run at 6am. Bit by bit the 32KM was attacked and 4 hours later the distance completed.
The following two Fridays I will be tapering and I now know if I can do 32KM I can complete the Marathon.
London – here we come!!!!
