I must be mad!

Hi everyone,

Unitl the start of 2007 I had never run more than 30 minutes but I started my training for the London Marathon back in Janurary and I ran the marathon in 4 hours 34 minutes and 49 seconds, raising over £1400 for the National Osteoporosis Society.

I joined Sheffield RUnning Club to help with my training and have been loving running ever since. I'm now aiming to enjoy my running as much as possible, get fitter and run a few shorter races, hopefully setting some PBs and improving on them!

Re: Returning to Support all ...

If you cast your minds back a few months...Ok about 6 you might remember I used to be a regular on here. After moving to Leeds and starting a new job, life got in the way of running and I just couldn't bring myself to get out in the dark evenings, so I ...

And so the Wheel Start Turning!

Last week was a complete write off and I managed a grand total of zero, yes zero runs and pretty much no other form of exercise either! Even Sunday morning mum and I were dragging our heels about going for a run and decided watching others amke the effo...

Running All the Way Home.

I failed miserably to get out the door for a single run last week. I didn't really even have a good excuse but I simply just get around to it. The change of job and moce have meant I've not really found myself a routine of getting out for a run. I have ...

Exploring New Terriotory

Monday evening I headed off towards Roundhay park had had a lovely run for just over 40 mins. It was a fairly steady paced run with a sneaky little hill at the end. I barely touched on the park just running around one of the the lakes, dodging a few dog...

New City, New Job, New Runnin...

Contrary to popular belief I haven't disappeared never to be seen again. I have however been very very busy. The move the Leeds was a definite success and I'm really enjoying my new flat and garden, complete with squirrels and foxes!! Starting my new jo...

All Change

Training has taken rather a back seat this week. A few more pressing issues including submitting my thesis, packing in preparation for the move to Leeds and the small matter of a number of leaving 'dos' to attend have simply got in the way! I'm allowing...

A little Slack on the Running...

Thursday's speed session was a real toughie. It was 5 efforts each starting in the same place but covering a slightly different route and each with a nasty little incline which certainly took it out of the legs and lungs. Having completed the fifth and ...

A Couple of Steady 5 milers

I was definitely glad of the comnay of my mum on Saturday morning's run. It was a fairly steady paced 5 miler but after around the 3 1/2 mile mark it was really starting to feel like a  real effort. It was only a little futher into the run I realised it...

Variety is the Spice of Life

Last night's club run was a speed session with a twist lots of twists. Once again the site for the session was the grass bowl next to Don Valley but more specifically on the grassy terraced area. The task in hand was to run along the plateau of one terr...

Running Well

After Monday mornings 10 miler I did indeed go to the gym for a spinning class later in the day. Being there a little earlier I decided to do some work on my usually neglected arms with a few weights. THe spinning class was one of the tougher ones for a...

A Good Start to the Week

After a pretty relaxed weekend with several bottles of vino (you'l be pleased to hear Amanda!!) I redeemed myself this morning with a 10 miler, out towards the peaks and around RIvelin reservoir. The first hill felt better than previously, tackling it s...

Friday - A Day of Rest for Th...

Tuesday's club run was joinly lead my myself an Malcs as Malcs was sure his injured legs (yes both of them) would carry him round the whole route. It was a nice steady run, with a couple of efforts, nothing too challenging which was just what my legs ne...

Rested, Refreshed and Raring ...

It would seem realbuzz is conspiring against me at the moment! I'll try posting that itm again.... The weekend proved to be just as azy as anticipated with plenty of drinking and food, especially a lovely fillet steak cooked by the other half a...

Embracing the Hills!

As my last post failed miserably I'll try again.. Tuesday's club run was to be a nice gentle trot along the canal enjoying the beautiful evening. I choose to run with the slower group and just enjoy the run. We did a steady 5 miles with a coupl...

Flying by (Time that is!)

I’m just not sure where the last 10 days have gone. Amitttedly the first 5 or so were spent snuffling, sniffling and generally no doing any running, not the best preparation for a 10K I hear you cry!! I did however manage several lovely meals out and a ...

Lurgy!!

Well the serious training is on hold at the moment as the club lurgy seems to have finally reached me. With a throat that feels like I have swallowed a razor blade in my sleep, a nose that has definitely been plugged with cotton wool and the general let...

More miles

My legs were definitely pleased for the rest on Saturday and the opportunity to relax and have a good laugh at the races, we were extremely lucky with the weather, not  a shower all afternoon, we did have a slightly sticky moment when the car got somewh...

Non Stop

After 15 miles on Monday and Tuesday it was time for a rest from running on Wednesday. I did an hour and 20 mins in the gym cycling, which definitely helped to ease my legs out without tiring them even more. Yesterdays speed session was to be quite a bi...

A Touuch of Tempo

Last night's club run pushed me out of my comfort zone, which was exactly what I needed. In Dave's absence the slower group was taken by Steve, but James took six of us out at a slightly faster pace. Before long I was a the back of the group hang...

Victory over the Treadmill

It turned out that my legs were to get more of a rest over the weekend than originally planned as my stomach was feeling decidedly dodgy on Sunday morning and I thought it best not to risk a run, especially given the amount of rain which was fall...

Knuckling Down

There's nothing like an impending race to motivate some serious training and it seems my enthusiasm for training has returned. Following Tuesdays run the legs were a bit stiff but nothing much so with the spinning session cancelled the only way f...

Slacking

After the over indulgences of alcohol and food in the last 2 weeks and the inevitable lack of training due to a conference in Manchester last night’s club run was always going to be hard. James lead the run which meant the pace was guaranteed to be fast...

Fitter, Faster?

After putting a lot into the session last Thursday my legs were certainly feeling a little less than spritely on Saturday when we went for an hours run. I was definitely pleased to be home following a nice trot along the seafront at Redcar. The apparent...

Enjoying Working Hard

Fresh from a great weekend I was raring to go on the exercise front, which may also be the result of me spending my days glued to my laptop ploughing on through my thesis, with the odd bit of presentation preparation. Monday's session in the gym ...
