Overweight & unfit to running a marathon!!

Where to start? In 2005 I was a size 22 and totally unfit and unhappy. Realising I was on a road to nowhere and inspired by "The Biggest Loser" tv show - I turned my life around. Beginning with sensible and healthy eating, followed by joining and using a gym - the results showed fairly quickly and the weight dropped off. It hasn't been easy and I still need to lose some more weight but having already lost 5.5 stone - the last stone will hopefully drop off with the training.

Oh yeah - that's why I have started this blog. Training for the London Marathon. Having started running a couple of years ago for the Hydro 5k Challenge, I found I had a passion for the sport and have kept running - entering a few 10k's and the Great South 10 mile run. The marathon was something I wanted to do in a few years - and as I had heard it was difficult to get a ballot place thought I had better start applying - imagine my surprise when I got in first time - scared and elated etc etc.

Anyway - so begins a new chapter in my running life - one that will have its ups and downs as I train for this mammoth event. To keep me motivated I have decided to keep a blog .......

I'm a winner!!

Hello all - its been a while since my last post. Not too much to report. Training has been going well - managed the 20 miler ok and also ran the Bournemouth Bay Half Marathon which was a great run. So now to the tapering and calming things down just a b...

Varied run

Yesterday was so good. Started off my long run with a trek through the woods with some of the ladies from Metros - then met up with another friend and ran some laps of a local park before heading home. The time went by quickly - 3 hours and 15 miles lat...

A poor run and catch up.

After a week of sniffing and feeling grotty I got back into the running groove just in time for Silverstone. However, being ill drained me more than I thought and so it was a tough half. Completed in 2:33 I was never on for a PB - and in the end treated...

Eye of the tiger - and so on!!!

Haven't blogged for ages. Up until Thursday - my training has been on schedule. I had a really good 8 miles on Wednesday and felt great. However, I have been nursing a cold and had to cut short Thursdays planned run after only 1 mile in due to daggers i...

Mmm - cake!!!

Brief catch up - Wednesday felt like blah - bad day at the office and did not want to go out for any run but knew that I needed to - so somewhat reluctantly I headed out the door 15 mins after getting in from work. 8 miles planned but only 7.75 complete...

Spring is here at last

- or so it seems to me. After the last few weeks it was nice to wake up and not worry about whether it be too icy to go out. Hill reps planned today so up early and off out. I didn't go to running club last night - changing my rest day after the long ru...

Bring on the Phantom!

Gosh - haven't blogged for a week. It has been pretty busy in our household this week. My mum came up to stay for a few days so I took some holiday. We went up town as she wanted to visit the Tsar exhitbition at the V&A. I wasn't that interested in ...

2 laps of the park

After the fairly disastrous week I wasn't sure if running club was going to be on yesterday but I decided to run there anyway. I am pleased I made the effort as it was a great session. Not fast but fun as we were running on the crisp snow still on the g...

Ice skating anyone

Having decided to have a rest day yesterday after Sunday's exertions I am really annoyed that the lovely fresh snow I could have run on yesterday morning is now turned to sheer ice! I practically slid into work this morning and coming home wasn't much b...

Over the moon

A cold and brisk morning - what do I wear - I don't want to be cold en route  nor do I want to be too hot and have to shed layers - does everyone else has this dilemma when they are running in a race. In the end opted for the long sleeve shirt - club ve...

Hooray - it's Friday!

After a very hectic week at work I am so glad to have reached Friday still relatively sane. Why oh why do people leave it so late to get their accounts and tax returns done. Anyway - finally got the last one out in time this afternoon. Would be celebrat...

Fame at last!

Out early for a 6 miler this morning. Hard work after Sundays long run followed by Monday night club run (more hills) - so took it easy this morning. Have got to taper a bit anyway in preparation for Sundays HM. I received a booking form through the pos...

Mostly BMW's

Yesterday was brilliant despite the rain. Had arranged to meet up with a friend for a run. I ran the 5 miles to meet her, then she took me on a 8 mile hilly route round her neighbourhood. The result was 13 miles completed - yee haa!! Ok - so I didn't ma...

Up and down

Things are really busy at work - have been getitng in early and finishing late. Still managing to keep on schedule with training though. Tonight was hill sessions with my son. My hill reps consist of running fast up a hill (really a bit of a slope) to a...

Number arrived

- for the Watford Half this morning. There is a profile of the course in the blurb and they are not joking about those hills. At least whatever time I do it in will be a PB as it is my frst half marathon. Did not want to get out of bed this morning - bu...

Long week

Haven't posted since Monday - but have managed to read a lot of posts. Sorry about my lack of comments!! It has been a bit manic at work so haven't really felt inspired to post. Won't bore you all with the weekly training stats - it has been business as...

Catch up

Couldn't post yesterday due to hubby downloading and uploading so hogging the laptop. Not quite sure what he was doing but it looked technical.  A very hilly 10 miler yesterday. The big hill at mile 6 - 7 got the better of me as I had to walk up some of...

Pounds on!!

Yesterday was hill reps with son J (the one in my profile picture). Just over 35 mins - exhausting work! Then off to WW for the dreaded post Crimbo weigh in. I knew I had put on but have been really good this week so was hoping to lessen the damage. Any...

Falling over and great run today

Yesterday was a rest / cross train day so I decided to work on my core with Wii Fit - oh what fun trying to do those yoga positions - I kept falling over - I am so not flexible!! fared a bit better on the muscle workouts. Who knows - by FLM day I might ...

Not the only one

to brave the icy conditions today. Glad I was running with the club tonight as the pavements were a lot better than they were this morning. I was slip sliding all the way to work and looked a bit bedraggled as I didn't have a hat or brolly when it start...

Another LSR completed

My official FLM 16 week plan kicks in tomorrow but the unofficial one has carried on and today I managed a rather slow 9 miles. It was cold out but I soon warmed up and really enjoyed the run. Some of my route is quite scenic and today was no exception ...

Happy New Year to you all

Well the festive season is almost over and the hard work is about to kick in. The reality of what I have signed up for and the effort of training is daunting as the new year beckons. Reading all the blogs though I realise I am not alone. Despite the ove...

Tis the season to be jolly!

I can't believe it's been a week since my last blog post - how time flies when you are having fun or rather busy working and getting stuff organised for the festive season! I have managed a couple of runs this last week - a gentle 7 miler on Sunday and ...

Choices!

Had a choice to make tonight as I didn't run this morning - do I go to weight watchers knowing that I haven't reached my target of 50lbs due to being coldified last week and comfort eating etc etc or do I go for a run? No choice really - I went for the ...
