Ironmum - well maybe...

Hi my name is Tina.

I started life as a runner in 2008.  Spurred on by the RealBuzz blog site and its encouraging participants I entered and took part in eight 10K races and my first ever half marathon.  My running become a bit of a passion.

I continued to race throughout 2009 and joined a running club which helped me improve my pace and continue to get PBs which I was really pleased with.

After joining a Triathlon Team for weekly running training for over a year they finally convinced me to get on a bike too which led on to swimming.  That was somewhat more of a challenge and I struggled to do more than a length without stopping.  I very nearly gave up but found myself a coach and some one to one lessons.  She gave me the confidence I needed and taught me how to breathe properly and I haven't looked back since.

So I spent two years doing sprint and then a standard triathlons and felt pretty good about myself.  This year I had intended to do a Half IronMan until one of my club colleagues signed up for IronMan UK and kind of talked me into it too!

No, 1452

Can't believe its been nearly a month since I last blogged.  A lot has happened in four weeks.  Well a lot of training has happened thats for sure. 3 weeks ago I drove up to the Isle of Skye for a kind of half IM practice.  It was the Skye Half Marathon...

Brain freeze!

Nothing amazing to report this week really.  Lots more training of course. However, me and my other two IM in training colleagues decided it was high time we got our butts out into open water and do some 'real' swimming!  So off we toddled down to Threi...

Warm Weather Weekend

What a fabulous weekend.  I have been praying to the weather gods since I don't know when - well since the beginning of January anyway.  I have trained and in particular cycled in every type of weather; rain, sleet, snow, hail and wind.  The wind has be...

Running round in circles

Thursday evening is a running training session.  Our ex club coach now works at Banantynes and has taken a running session there for several years now.  Several club members tag along (at her invitation) and great wee sessions they are too. She works on...

Less than 100 days to go

Well RealBuzz!  It's been a while! But seeing as I am approaching (at great speed) one of the biggest challenges of my life I thought I would come back and share my experiences with you.  I know strictly speaking this is a running blog site and I am a t...

Remember me?  It must be a hundred years since I last posted a blog - well ok 5 months but a long time right? Well not a lot had been happening worth blogging about to be honest.  Training, Christmas, New Year, more training, pants weather, bit more tra...

Today I reache a milestone.  Today is my birthday - a milestone birthday and I am not quite sure where time has gone if I am honest.  Part of me thinks 'I am not really that old' and another part of me thinks 'I wish I had discovered the things I am doi...

Haddington Sprint Triathon

If I checked the weather forecast once last week I probably checked it a thousand times.  All this talk of strong winds and heavy rain as the tail end of some hurricane or other piled in did not fill me with much joy knowing I had the Haddington Sprint ...

Silly Season (or the passed t...

I have so much to tell you about I hardly know where to begin.  I suspect that this blog will turn out to be long as I have three weekends of events to tell you about so I may split it between two parts.  Either way, go make yourself a cuppa and grab a ...

Wet, Wet, Wet!

I did actually post this blog a week ago but it seems RB had issues which meant it was lost!  However, I was clever (!) and typed the orginal in Word so had a copy!  Yee haa! In my last blog I mentioned that I didn’t expect the weather to be as good for...

Start of the Silly Season

This weekend sees the start of my silly season!  But I am getting ahead of myself.  What’s been happening since my last blog? Tuesday is usually cycle training night but with two of the usual gang resting after their Iron Man exploits and the others wor...

Going Good to Firm!

I had always hoped to go to Nottingham last weekend to cheer on the three club members taking part in the Outlaw IronMan Distance Challenge race but it didn’t quite work out that way.  However, I had already registered for the Musselburgh 10K before I h...

2 x 50

The last couple of weeks have been a bit of the calm before the storm in training and events terms.  I have had a couple of weekends with no events but that is all going to change over the next six weeks as I got a tad carried away when entering things ...

Sprint Tri and Sunburnt Shoul...

The thing about being on RealBuzz and FaceBook is that you are in danger of boring the pants off of everyone. If you follow me on FB (and I know quite a few of you do) you will already know that on Sunday I took part in my first Sprint Triathlon.  Now u...

Missing blogs, swimming with ...

Got a bit miffed with Real Buzz it has to be said. On Monday 13 June I wrote and long blog all about the wonderful weekend that I had in Skye, the meeting up with old friends, meeting some new ones, chilly BBQs, wonderful sunshine, half marathon PBs an...

Stirling Triathlon 2011

Some months ago, my very good friend, Vicki, from Skye emailed me and said she fancied entering a team into the Edinburgh Marathon Relay and would I like to be part of the team.  I said I would and somehow or other I ended up Team Captain and organiser ...

Midlothian Triathlon

It has actually been nearly two weeks since I took part in the Midlothian Novice Triathlon in Dalkeith and there is a good reason for not blogging about it but I will explain that later (if you are a follower of FaceBook you will already know all about ...

East Fife Triathlon

For Christmas my good friend Vicki bought me a t-shirt with ‘Don’t Just Tri – Tri Harder’ on it.   I love this t-shirt however I didn’t really feel that I could wear it until I had at least competed in a triathlon.  Well, I am now wearing with pride bec...

Stirling Duathlon & Eureka Mo...

Nearly April!  The Easter Bunny is hopping his way towards us at a scary speed!  But at least the clocks have gone forward, the nights are lighter and, dare I say it, it is getting a tad warmer. Last week was a strange old week for me.  I ran 13 miles o...

Tabata and a Lesson Learnt

Last week turned out to be even more of a step back week than the one before the 10 mile race for one reason or another. Having said that I guess not on Monday!  Monday is gym day and beasting by Michael day and boy did he have a session and a half in s...

Arbroath Footers “Smokies 10”

I decided to have a bit of a step back week last week.  This was because I had another race on Sunday, just seven days after the very tiring duathlon last weekend.  I felt quite washed out on Monday morning and felt that I wouldn’t be able to give the 1...
