Building up to London Marathon 2010

Hi, I've never done any kind of blog before so unsure how or what should be in it, so appologies if its just one long ramble.

Well I started training today in preparation for a hopeful entry into the London marathon 2010, having last year lost over 7 stone in weight. I have downloaded, and am using the London marathon 2009 beginners training guide, and surprised myself with how I got on today.  After a slightly inadequate warm-up (to eager to dive straight in), I managed to jog non stop for the 20 minutes recommended along the linear park, in Cinderford, Forest of Dean. I felt like I could have done slightly more, but have read that I ought to stick just to the time reccomended.  There were two lessons I learnt from today, 1 - not to start off so fast and 2 -sort out my ipod playlist (metallica followed by erasure not too good) .  I have to say I'm buzzing right now, probably going to ache later, it's then I probably be glad I didn't go any longer!

Bristol half marathon and bei...

Well today finally arrived, the first race I have ever entered since leaving school some good few years ago.  I chose the Bristol HM as I only live about an hour away, but I still  didn't realise the obscene time I would have to get up on a Sunday morni...

I've been slacking off :(

Well ever since I went on holiday at the end of July I've not given 100% to this running I'm ashamed to say.  I now run for 2 hours every weekend in which I normally complete between 13 to 14 miles, however these last two weeks I've been getting slower ...

Okay its getting tough now!

Well firstly sorry for not updating sooner, but have been really busy with stuff.  Well since the last time I wrote it has been hard going to say the least (I had to read my last entry to refresh myself, and I was complaining about the heat. hmm well!) ...

Uneventful Saturday run

Just a quick one about today's run.  I work a twilight shift, so didn't finish work until 2am, but with this weeks heat I had asked Lynda to get me up at 8am, so that I could go running about 9:30 to avoid the worst of the heat.  Well I didn't feel like...

Blood, sweat, but no tears.

Well Saturday's run went better than I had hoped for.  It was hot so I'd started off at a leisurely rate, but about 3/4 way around I was in extreme pain with the sns problem back with a vengeance.  A quick check established the plasters had come off, bu...

The fun returns :)

Well what a fun week I've had with regards to running!  firstly before going into that, a big thank you to Jon for the plaster advice on the SNS, it worked a treat! Also thanks to all for the comments on my previous post. Since last Wednesday, I went ou...

Well since my last post it has been really tough getting back into this running lark.  It would seem that I have lost a little bit more fitness than I had hoped through my enforced layoff, with last weeks smaller runs not going to well.  With this in mi...

Back in business.

Well I have just completed my 1st training session since having my hernia op.  The op went well, and I have recovered much quicker than last time so this is good.  Before the op I was in alot of pain down my left achilles so as I had this enforced break...

Pain, Rain, and sheep poo...

Well since my last post I have lost my running partner on the Saturday long runs.  My brother used to come out with me on a Saturday as the git was able to run faster than myself.  He really pushed the pace, so with this in mind the first Saturday witho...

Making progress.

Well let me firstly apologise for not updating this sooner. Since the last post I have had a mixed time of it, I had to stop a 45 minute run just over half way around due to me knee playing up.  The problem was I believe due to where I was running, as i...

Back on track

Week 4 (again) / 5 Well after the woes of my knee playing up I redone week 4, this time making sure I took it very easy.  It worked!   Because of the serious lack of exercise I've done, I had allowed plenty of time for exactly these sort of problems.  ...

Week 3 + 4 update; Week 3 - Started poorly due to a problem of my own making.  I went out on the Monday having had a few drinks Sunday night, and struggled with the run even though it was only 30 minutes.  I will not make that mistake again me thinks......

2nd week progress

Just finished the end of the second week, and have mixed feelings over it all.  The running side of things has gone well, ending in a 30 minute reasonable pace run, even including some uphill work.  I struggled early in the week, and had to control my i...

1st week completion.

Well that's the 1st week of this journey completed!  It went okay, if truthful a little easier than I had expected, but I'm under no illusions that it will get harder.  On Saturday's slightly longer run (25 minutes) I met up with my brother who I've rop...
