About the Event
What is Tough Mudder?
Tough Mudder is a series of hardcore military-style obstacle race - mud run events designed to challenge the toughest of the tough. Choose either the 5k event, the 8-10 mile ‘Classic’, or the Competitive race to pit yourself against man-made obstacles that will test your all-around strength, stamina, teamwork, and mental grit.
Tough Mudder originally started in the United States in 2010 with the first event having 4,500 participants. Fast forward several years, and there are now hundreds of events taking place across multiple different countries, bringing the grand total of participants up to well over 3 million people. With an average of 10-15 thousand racers at every event, the event is not technically a race but instead focuses on teamwork and completion of the event rather than finishing under a certain time.
With around 3 man-made obstacles per mile of the course that are designed to make you turn to your fellow competitors and team mates for help, the event demands group participation. If you decide to enter an event by yourself though don’t worry - the people next to you become your teammates as you all work together to scale the daunting obstacles.
How to enter a Tough Mudder event
In the UK alone there are 9 locations running at least one event so make your way to the online registration system, select which location or dates suit you best and also whether you are doing the 5K event, the 8-10 mile Classic challenge or one of the competitive series events.
Getting muddy for charity
If you already have a place to compete in a Tough Mudder event, you can approach a charity of your choice and let them know that you would like to help them. Your efforts will be hugely appreciated and they will provide you with lots of relevant support and information to help you raise as much money as possible.
If you haven’t already signed up, a number of charities buy places every year to give to individuals that promise to raise a certain amount of funds in return for a place. These charities will take you under their wing, providing extra benefits such as a dedicated cheering point at the events for you and the rest of the charity’s competitors and free parking passes.
If you are interested in taking part in a Tough Mudder for charity take a look at the list of charities with their own places, and get in touch for more information. Alternatively check out the discussion board and find answers and ask questions about the event.
