In terms of a singlet to run in, can you recommend any particular material or gsm for comfort?
There are literally hundreds of different types of singlets available and they differ according to fit, fabric and cut, amongst many other things! However you must buy one made of a wicking material (draws moisture away from the skin).
All the major brands offer many different options and they have their own named fabrics. The type you need will depend on the climate you run in. The lighter the better if you run somewhere really hot.
Try out some options before settling on a favourite and remember that the most expensive isn't always the best. You can often pick up last year's models for half the price of this year's model in a discount store.
