I'm going away on holiday soon and am trying to get a flatter stomach. I've been doing some general cardio workouts but it's not really had much effect. Is there anything else I can do?

Firstly, cardio is a great place to start, so don’t feel too disheartened. Maybe try a few different cardio workouts and see which has the most effect - skipping is brilliant for this as it will help tone your abs. But on top of that, why not create your own flat stomach workout – mixing and matching some of the many abs exercises that are around.

Our favourites include ‘The Plank’ – we like it because not only does it strengthen your inner core muscles but it burns more calories than traditional exercises like sit ups! Even if you can only hold it for 20-30 seconds, done regularly, it’ll have a real impact. Lay flat on your front and place your forearms on the floor. Then, press down with your forearms and push up – moving onto your toes for support - until your body is in a straight line.

The ‘Bicycle Crunch’ is another great exercise for flattening that stomach - it works all the major abdominal muscles - but remember to take this slowly for maximum effect. Lay on your back with your palms beneath your head and your legs at a 90-degree angle. Keeping your right hand on your head; twist your body, bringing your right elbow towards your left knee. Alternate your limbs, bringing your left elbow toward your right knee. Continue for at least 30 seconds and longer if possible! While you’re doing all this exercise don’t forget that the right diet is also essential to achieve a flatter stomach!

I work out a couple of times a week but it doesn't seem to have any impact on my arms or upper body. Are there any exercises I can do to help these areas?
