How long before my marathon should I eat breakfast?

There are actually no hard and fast rules when it comes to eating prior to a marathon as the length of time that you leave between eating and standing on the start line depends on what you eat and your digestive system. Most runners typically need 2-3 hours to digest breakfast. However, I know some who need to leave 4-5 hours and some who can eat within an hour of toeing the line. The trick is to experiment and practise with what you feel most comfortable with in training.
