What training tools can help for swimming and when?
The most common pieces of training equipment are a pull buoy, paddles, kick board, band and fins. Try to buy this equipment and take them to each of your sessions as it helps you to work on all aspects of your swimming and helps keep your main sets interesting.
Pull buoys can be especially good for triathletes as often we have tired legs from training hard on the bike and run so by taking some of the legs out of the equation it helps us isolate the arms to get us through the set. Coupled with paddles it’s great for building up your strength.
Fins also allow you to swim at speed so you can focus on your technique and catch and get experience of swimming fast. It also makes us realise how crucial the legs are in fast swimming. Band is perfect for the advanced swimmer. You can make one out of an old inner tube and place it around your ankles allowing you to improve your body position and strength.
