Do I need to spend a fortune to get started in triathlon?

In triathlon you can really spend whatever you want on your kit. However, if you’re just starting out in the sport the difference it will make to you is very marginal. You don’t have to go top of the range and almost all brands do some economy pieces that will be only a little slower than their best choices.

Triathletes are kit junkies and like to refresh their kit often and second hand bikes don’t really sell for anything near what they’re worth and most will be absolutely fine for you to ride, so I’d advise finding some classifieds or perhaps ebay where you can pick up a great bike for a fraction of the cost new. If you’re strong then you’ll be able to make it go fast!
