Architect on the Run.... again!

I'm an architect from Plymouth who in 2013 ran my first ever Marathon ater 20 years of non-running. I managed it in 3:15 and was pretty stoked. I ran the VMLM again in 2015 and hit 3:09... so I have unfinished business and a desire to break the 3 hour barrier!

Running with “The Midnight Ru...

I often find myself in London or the South East with work and whenever I am away from home I always pack my runners. It’s a great excuse to get out and explore somewhere new, though in the winter I do tend to take a head torch as much of Kent seems to t...

London GFA times are even mor...

Wow.... I ran Manchester in 2017 and achieved a GFA time for the London Marathon of sub 3:15 at age 40. This allowed me to enter the 41-45 category as I woudl be 41 on race day in 2018. As it happens I have had to withdraw this year and defer to 2019. ...

Hope 24 - A new Hope or hopel...

A couple of weeks ago I took part in Hope 24.  Having run 3 marathons I was offered the opportunity to take part in a different kind of running event. This was something way out of my comfort zone and would definitely be a challenge. I have always run...

Smashed my half marathon PB.....

For anyone that knows me.... I have really annoying habit of doing absolutely nothing for ages then just smashing some miles out! After Manchester I was sensible and took 2 weeks off running and to be honest all exercise completely. I saw my physio for...

Manchester Marathon - Chasin...

Last weekend I took a trip to Manchester. I had promised my long suffering wife that I would not run London again on a charity ticket as raising over £2000 each time was seemingly tougher than the training. Having run London twice like this and getting ...

Trying a new tactic - Eating!

Hey everyone....  I'm Back!!!!   Its been a long while since I last posted and to be honest I took a little time off to sort things out. After London 2015 I faired quite well and had entered Bournemouth later that year and Brighton 2016. Unfortunately a...

Post Event recovery and next ...

Every great athlete knows the key to success is post analysis of performance. Now I'm no great athlete but if I want a GFA then lessons need to be learnt. This was my 2nd marathon and I learnt from my first having sorted out my pre race hydration better...

A little stroll round London ...

As many will know I came to London feeling a little undertrained. Whilst most of you run 5 or 6 times a week I followed a training plan that should have been 4 runs a week but in reality to try and fit in with work and family I have only been running tw...

I don't think anyone has organised anything so how about 9am in the Red Start by the Lucozade Sport stand where they give out free bottles of lucozade sport. We can all wave at Vin in his truck then!   For those in the Blue start... boooooo!!!! :P see y...

My kind of taper! - Prepping ...

So.... I am runner number 45777 Running for the RNLI wearing a yellow RNLI vest and bright orange shorts aiming for sub 7 minute miles (just).   After my decision to go off plan I really wanted to get one more long run in but it never happened.  So........

A confession......

I'm guilty..... Guilty of a most heinous crime....    I'm one of those people who wants to do so much but struggles to find the time. As a result I run sparingly but run hard... My crime however........ Is not stretching 🙊   When I ran 20 miles I simpl...

Balls........ this is not th...

It pays to listen to what your body is telling you..... 2 weeks ago I ran 20.5 miles but ran the last 4 slow as my calf and hamstring felt a little tight. Last week I bailed after 13  miles and did the 3 mile walk of shame home when my calf and achilies...

Time to be sensible......

A quick catch up on last weeks activities and the importance of playing the game sensibly.   As I am running "Off Plan" now I had previously managed 20.5 miles which I was really please with. The next couple of days my legs felt fine and there was a def...

Running Off Plan but back on ...

As those who have read my earlier posts will know my training took a bit of a knock and I lost 5 weeks at a crucial stage through injury and illness. Since then I have been running for 3 weeks and my fitness had taken a huge hit. It felt like I was star...

Not a LSR ..... but LMR !

Firstly..... I've noticed that there has been a spate of posts from buzzers with injuries. Its not surprising when the mileage goes up for injuries to rear their ugly heads.   However....It also looks like most seem to be getting over them now which is ...

Pushing it!

So my last post saw me taking an injury break at the end of January. I'd seen a chiropractor/sports physio who identified a problem with my back and I ended up not running for a couple of weeks. Perhaps it was good timing but I caught a really bad case ...

When one pain leads to another!

I am currently on enforced rest following my last run on 13th Jan. I had put in a solid 12 mile hill training session a couple days before whilst breaking in my new Brooks Revenna 5 shoes.  I followed this up on the 12th witha  6 mile lunchtime run whic...

Hey Buzzers!   Apologies for not being on much.... Work... Home... Child... Anyways.....   I didn't get in on the ballot........Again!!!! But I have secured a place through running for the RNLI. Its great to be in and I love running for a charity I beli...

2015?????

Ballot entered after a year off from running the vlm2013. I literally stopped running after doing the 26.2 miles. I ran a 5k race a couple months later, a 10k race last November and today the Plymouth Half Marathon. In between I have probably been for a...

And then it was gone..... but...

Firstly congratulations to all of you for your runs on Sunday, so many personal achievements, so many great efforts and so many wonderful memories. For some getting there was the hardest, for others just to take part was incredible and for all to finish...

6 bloody seconds! - 3:15:06

6 bloody seconds.... thats the cost of having to stop for a pee at mile 8.  Still very very happy especially as it was ridiculously hot and I was blowing 6 miles in.    Probably started too quick but was enjoying it and did the first half in 1:30:15 the...

Mega last minute effort!

Took the train up from Plymouth today and used the journey to really hit my online fundraising using as much social media as my intermittent phone signal would let me. Amazed at some of the donations that came in and raised over £200 today taking my onl...
