Blog started:

I like running :-)

I have been running (slowly!) since the mid-nineties. Then, in 2005, I fell off my bicycle (*with* a helmet on, fortunately). I got a traumatic brain injury, and spent weeks in a coma, months in hospital, and 18 months off work. I now run *even* slower than I used to (but hey, I now have the 'excuse' of being 'blind' and disabled, so I think I'm *allowed* to be slow, aren't I?).

In December 2012, I had a 'trocantheric bursectomy' operation, because of a nasty pain in my bum/hip that had cropped up in 2011, and didn't respond to all the treatment. The physio told me to start running again (gently) in August 2013.

I love blogging, so I will carry on, OK?

An early start

This morning, Mr Flump took Flumpette No.2 to school, which let me leave early, get an earlier train, and go to the gym, first thing. I did this because I knew I would be busy at lunchtime, and I didn't want to miss out on my workout. I was very energet...

Hmm. Shall I exercise today, ...

Answer: both! :-) I was going to go for a swim, as the Snufflemuncher* had a swimming club session, at Hampton swimming pool. That is a lovely outdoor pool, 33m long. I quite often go along, and swim myself, while she has her club session. But today, Mr...

A race!

No, it wasn't me doing the race! I got up early for a Sunday, today. I had set my alarm for 7, as usual, but Mr Flump came in with a cup of tea for me, at quarter to, and said "We're leaving in half an hour!" He drove me and the kids over to Kingston Up...

Woo, that was my longest yet!

I sat down this afternoon, to mark some more exams. If you don't know this, I am a university lecturer - a geologist. I am a 'Rock Doctor' - my real name is 'Dr Flump'. Mr Flump is a 'Bug Doctor' as he is a lecturer too, and he works with animals, parti...

Flippin'eck, I am knackered!

Zonked! I was planning to go to the gym at lunchtime today, but Flumpette No.1 was feeling really grotty: a very bad headache, and a stomach ache, too. Plus she was sick the other night, and felt nauseous again. It is a good thing I have the sort of job...

"Easy"? Ha ha!

I just did an 'easy' 45 minutes on the exercise bike. I just dragged it into the lounge, and told Flumpette No.2 we would watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer. She was very happy with that.  (Argh! The smiley faces still aren't working. Can everyone else see ...

I ran today!

Only a very little bit, though. (Damn, I was going to put an embarrassed red face there, but the box is empty. Where have all the faces gone? I *like* my smiley faces!) Anyway, I worked hard all morning, then i noticed it was after 12, so I quickly rush...

Taking it easy(-ish)

I was too busy at work today to go to the gym, at lunchtime (I was 'observing teaching' from 10 until 1, with a guy who has recently retired, and is now an 'Emeritus professor', so he is not on the staff, and we have to pay him to come in to teach. It i...

Early morning energy

I normally get the 8:15 train to work, arriving at my office at 8:45. This morning, as Mr Flump was taking his turn looking after the Flumpettes, I got an earlier train 07:47!), which got me into work at 8:15. I went straight to the gym, and had a very ...

A big blank box

Whenever I post a blog, I tend to flag it up with my friends on Facebook. It used to put in a link, and my photo (in that lovely Headway vest). But these days, it only ever posts the link, and a big empty box. Why? What have I done? It looks really stup...

The Big Bang bum

I have had a reasonably active week, but I'm sorry, I don't seem to have told you guys about it. On Tuesday, I went to see the physio, which I did you about. One day, I did another really energetic session on the exercise bike. Another day, I went to th...

Mrs Physio has given up.

I went to see Mrs Physio this morning, and she said "Well, you're a lot better than you were, but... " She says all the pain in my legs is due to a nerve getting trapped in my spine. It's better now than it was, but it could get worse again, any time I ...

Oh honestly, this is just not...

I have been feeling a bit better about my legs. My left shin (which has really hurt, when walking, for years now) has been getting better. My right hip (which I had that operation on, the other year) has been feeling OK. And, for a week or so, the pain ...

I am worn out!

Flumpette No.2 had her swimming club, this afternoon. After last week, I decided that I wanted to go, too. I just did lengths of breaststroke. In the car there, Lizzie-wiz and Mr Flump were scoffing at the ladies who do 'heads-up' breaststroke, particul...

A funny sort of day. Phew, I ...

It has been a very odd Saturday. I had to go into work  - it was an Open Day at the university. I got talking to an applicant, and I think I did pretty well at convincing her that we are the right place for her to choose, but then she told me that the t...

Shhhh, don't tell anyone...

I had a very busy day, with lots of meetings and things that needed doing, but I managed to fit in a visit to the gym, at lunchtime. I did ten minutes on the slippy-slidey-thing, ten minutes on the rowing machine, and then ten minutes on the bike. I was...

I am worn out. I WANT PIZZA!

It is traditional: on Tuesday evenings, Mr Flump takes Flumpette No.1 and Flumpette No.2 swimming. (He normally drops them at their lessons, and goes out for a run, while they are swimming). As soon as they get home, we feed them. Then we kick them off ...

I'm a good girl, I am

Oh, I want to run, again. I miss running! I mean, I miss it, and my waistline really misses it, too. So, yet again, I had to do some exercise, even if it isn't the one I want to do... Several years ago, Mr Flump and I decided to sign our two little Flu...

3 times in one day!

I'm sorry, but I haven't done anything interesting, 3 times today. I have just washed my hair 3 times. I had a shower this morning, and then later on myself and the Flumpettes went to have our hair cut. Then, at 5-ish, Mr Flump went out for a run, so I ...

*Nice* doctor!

This morning, I went to a hospital, miles and miles away (much further than usual), to see Mr Vein Doctor (who must be fairly senior, hence the 'Mr', not 'Dr'). He blames the pain in my legs all on my back: apparently the MRI that I had the other week s...

Up and down, and up and down.

Remember, Mondays are my day off work. This morning, I decided to get the bus up to the swimming pool. Being 'blind' has its advantages - OK, so I can't drive anymore, but hey, the buses are free! I used to drop Miss Muffin off, and then walk to the bus...

Taking it easy

My legs don't feel to-o-o-o bad after yesterday's session, but I can certainly feel them. So, I decided to do a nice, gentle, session on the bike this afternoon. Just a half-hour today, listening to some music instead of watching telly. Mr Flump has bee...

Another 'long' session. :-)

Well,  for how happy and proud-of-myself I am, but  for how my poor knackered bum feels, now. We went into town this morning. I had sort-of planned to do some cycling first, but I was lazy, and got up late. I then came home in a bit of a grump, and did ...

Zonked!

Phew, I am zonked! The girls are off school on holiday. Since our childminder moved away, Flumpette No.1 looks after herself, and Flumpette No.2 goes to After School Club. That is fine during term-time, but not during the holidays. Mr Flump took his tur...
