Keith dreams of running 2014 London Marathon

Hi I'm Keith (but I sometimes use the user name "GoldthorpesHeel")

Family grown up, in my mid 50's, I started running at the start of this year, to lose some weight. I have long dreamed of running just one marathon, and as a native South East Londoner, exiled on the South Coast, that just had to be the Virgin London Marathon. I have been offered a place to run on behalf of one of my favoured charities, CLIC-Sargent, which of course means lots of fund raising. So this blog will (hopefully) catalogue my progress towards fulfilling this dream (and maybe a few other things too).

A Week In The Life Of A Runni...

Not posted for a week, so thought it was time for an update. So far this running business has been quite a breeze culminating in last Sunday's encouraging effort in the D'Urberville Dash 10k. But this Tuesday I really didn't feel like going out for the ...

Jelly Babies, Racing Babies a...

One correspondant has extolled the virtue of Jelly Babies as a superior alternative to Jelly Beans. I was slightly surprised to be offered a selection of Jelly Babies half way round my first ever run, the Crewkerne 10k. But I was then even more surprise...

Top Tips for runners ... D.I....

Not Such A Lazy Day ... Good ...

Given the heat had a few lazy days. Planned to run on Friday, but I have been going to Dorchester on Fridays with friend Paul to rehearse with the Durnovaria Silver Band. Well it seemed that the band were performing an impromptu, al-fresco, concert in t...

Slow and Slower ... You're Fired

Had a really good sessions at the Egdon Heath Harriers training run with Les yesterday. Gave us some (hopefully) really useful tips, had us sprinting (for want of a better description) uphill, and running on Weymouth beach (pebbly bit - not the golden s...

Beat the heat - If only ...

Out early yesterday morning in an attempt to beat the heat.  This is my current longest run, and the longest that I plan to do as preparation for my first ever half marathon in Bournemouth, October. Even before 9AM the heat was pretty unbearable, so giv...

A Lazy Day

Amazing weather today, in view of which it didn't seem a great idea to take part in the the Egdon Heath Harriers Maiden Castle Loop. But I have been busy working out how the delayed exposure works on my camera (as you can see). So that is my new look on...

Ab Initio

Nothing much to do on this Thursday evening (apart from a 10k run) so I must start my fundraising campaign to enable me to run the London Marathon on behalf of CLIC Sargent. One of my neighbours works at one of the schools in Weymouth, and one of their ...
