Life after the London marathon

My targets for 2016 are exactly the same as those for 2015 but weren't acheived........A sub 4 hour marathon; a sub 23.27 5k or park run (Hollywood's current PB); and a sub 1:50 half.

I'm doing two marathons this year: Manchester in April (did it in 4.13 last year); and Snowdon in October (did it in 5.01 last year).  I'm very excited about both.

Deciding to run my first London marathon in 2013; and being part of this site in the process has quite literally changed my life.  The confidence and pride it has created; the challenges that I've dared to set myself since; and the long term friendships and relationships that have developed are all very special.

It's been a good week :-)

Snowdon feels like a lifetime ago.  I think I may just have recovered now - physically and mentally.  I confess that my confidence was knocked with how things went on the day but since then things have been great. I went out for a gentle couple of mile...

A Race of 2 Halves

Snowdon Marathon 2018. I had unfinished business and I was ready for it.  If I was to sum up the weekend in as few words as possible I'd say: the weekend was fabulous; the sunshine was beautiful; my race didn't go so well in the end; and I spent a lot ...

About time?

Well it's been a while. I don't know if I've even blogged since starting my training for Snowdon. Firstly - last weekend.  Much has been said already of this wonderful day.  Realbuzzers running in purple all over the country.  The meet up in St Albans ...

Spirit of London

London marathon 2018.  Wow what an incredible day and weekend.  My 3rd London marathon and memories to treasure forever. Before I write about the weekend in more detail I’ll backtrack to where I was up to in my last post.  I’d just done 16 miles of the...

Manchester Madness

Well what a strange old week it's been! Last weekend I was moderately content with my long run but was looking forward to today's run.  Today I was doing 16 miles of the Manchester Marathon (i.e. stopping at a tram stop so that I could get back to my c...

Time to taper already??!!

Well it's been a little while since my last blog.  I think that I left things just before my first 20 mile training run...the Trimpell 20 mile race in Lancaster.  Oh my goodness that was an interesting run!!  More on that in a moment. I've been crammin...

The sun has been shining in M...

Hello all.  I hope everyone is well. I'm conscious that my blogs lately have been a little negative, however, I feel that it's good to be honest and tell it as it is - warts and all.  Thankfully there are no warts in this post though as it's been a goo...

The Marathon Gods are having ...

I feel as though I'm on the most ridiculous marathon training roller coaster.  It's a roller coaster with a mechanical fault which chugs along at a stop start pace and only just manages to drag itself over the puny highs before free falling down again. ...

Tentatively stepping back in ...

Hello all.  Thank you so much for the support and advice in my last blog.  I didn't realise that some of the comments were there as realbuzz doesn't always tell me anymore when someone has commented. (By the way I don't have access to a static bike but ...

In bits...

My last 2 weeks have been...well mostly pretty rubbish really :-( My last blog mentioned my triumphant 17 mile run where my hip felt fine.  So all was good and I was back on track. Or so I thought.  What I didn't mention (because I thought it insignifi...

Hips Don't Lie

After last week - here’s how week 7 panned out.... The plan was: speed session – 7 x 800 meters; tempo run – 8 miles; long run – 17 miles.  Last week was one of those where with work and kids to juggle it was hard to know where the runs were going to ...

Little Update

Well it seems that it was a teensy weensy bit early to be feeling too confident in my past few blogs..... Week 6 is now done and dusted but unfortunately it's not been great.  Monday was the speed session - 5 x 1200 meters.  It started well and I was d...

No Drama

Just a quick post after abandoning my last blog due to technical hitches. Well I've nearly finished 5 weeks of training now and things are going really rather well :-).  Nothing hurts or is injured; runs are being finished normally within traget pace; ...

Nearly two weeks down; just o...

It’s good to be back! Thank you for your supportive comments on my last blog .  As most of you will know - I did get the all clear from the cardiologist to start marathon training; and to just carry on as normal.   The valve regurgitation is very mild ...

My heart is broken :-(

Let me introduce myself...my name is Jenny and I used to blog on here often.....!!! I won’t try and make excuses for my absence on here all year and just move on. You may recall that I had a tough running year in 2016.  I was finding long runs very exh...

Blogging from the other side...

Well I have no idea how long it is since I last blogged.  And I’ve only once or twice looked on here very briefly over the past year too.  I’ll get round to blogging about me at some point soon hopefully but this one is not about me.  However, I feel co...

Lets kiss this year goodbye!

Just a quick blog to bring myself up to date. I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas.  It’s been a quiet one up here which is just what I’ve needed. Having just read Hollywood's blog I'm reminded of what an amazing year our realbuzzers have had.  Fore...

Onwards and upwards and back ...

Well I’ve been thoroughly enjoying myself over the past few weeks! I’ve also been doing a lot of reflecting on my running year to try to piece together how and why it turned out like it did. Thank you for your comments on my last blog.  I hadn’t realise...

Belated Snowdon Report

This is a tough one... It was another fantastic realbuzz weekend.  Brilliant as ever to see everyone.  People who feel like old friends despite the fact that I could count the times that actually I’ve met them on one had for most. David and I set off fo...

Nerds United

There are many great thing about living with another runner.  The obvious is that we share the passion and enthusiasm about running and can incorporate our hobby into time together.  The less obvious benefit is that there’s lots of opportunity to be a c...

Red Inspiration

Wow what an incredible bunch of people the realbuzzers are.  We all knew what we had to do this weekend and we knew why we were doing it.  David and I decided that we’d do our long training runs as we wanted something tough. David had 20 miles to do and...

Declaring Realbuzz Bankruptcy...

....confessions of a crap realbuzzer. There has been some amazing realbuzz acheivements over the past two months.  However I've been totally off the radar.  Life got very stressful for a few months for reasons that I won't get into on here.  And social ...

A bad day at the office but a...

I’m not sure where to start on this one.  It’s fitting that this is my 100th post on this blog of life after my first marathon in 2013. I’ll start by saying that the weekend was fantastic but the marathon itself did not go well.  However, I’m fine about...

Tapas and taper

Well I can highly recommend spending the final week of tapering for a marathon on holiday. Lots of relaxation; food; sleep; with a couple of short pleasant runs thrown in. We got back home a couple of hours ago so just need to stay in 'chilled out holid...
