Beyond Infinity

Running has been a revelation - going from no exercise at all just over six years ago to now has been a great journey. And the joy of running is that everytime you achieve something there is always another goal or target, or race or event to set your sights on.

In that vein I have taken part in twoComrades marathon an awesome event held every year in South Africa. 20,000 people racing for 56 miles - one amazing day - demonstrating the best in human spirit and comradeship. And also the Brathay 10 in 10 - ten marathons in ten days all for  great charity.

Am now up to mid 80's in terms of Marathons and hoping to hit 100 early next year - once that was infinity but so many goals beyond that.

"If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon."  Emil Zatopek

Project 3:00 - All In!

Is there really any difference between running 26.2 miles in a time of 03:00:01 or a time of 02:59:59? Does that second or two make any difference at all? Certainly not to the effort you put in, or barely to the pace you run at - it must be in the margi...

Did the Vikings run round in ...

I’ve never run over 56 miles but it was kinda on the list of things to do , at some point in the distance (the far distance). No real hurry to get it over with as understood they involved a whole heap of pain and its good to have things on a bucket l...

Viking Shore Marathon

I signed up for this race some time ago (as they sell out really fast with only 60 ish places) and didnt look at the details too much - got the reminder email in the week and it was Saturday (which I knew and actually quite like as it leaves the weekend...

Kent Road Runner Marathon

Well have been a bit quiet on here recently but been carrying on with the running. Trying to focus my training better and am now embarking on a structured plan (for first time in ages) in the build up to the Chicago Marathon in early October. Have many ...

If Carlsburg did marathons - ...

If you are looking for a lovely, lower key, friendly and supportive marathon, with a bit of a challenging but fun course and great bling at a great price look no further than Halstead which I did on Sunday. Its everything a local marathon ought to be. G...

Pacing the Milton Keynes Mara...

Saturdays race was a distant memory  by Sunday when I went out for six miles to try and (a) get rid of the heavyness in the legs and more importantly (b) try and dial in the 9 ish minutes per mile pace I needed to get round on Monday in the four hours b...

English National 50km and Bri...

Well I wasn’t going to run today, really I wasn’t as I am on pacing duties at the Milton Keynes Marathon on Monday and that’s really important. The 4 hour pace bus is usually one of the biggest and it tends to be one of those times that people really wa...

Madrid Rock & Roll Marathon

Busy weekend for me. Up at four am yesterday morning to fly to Madrid. Got there and straight to Expo to pick up number for todays Madrid Rock & Roll Marathon. Expo was OK but probably less than a 1/3 the size of London and largely filled with stall...

Enigma Strikes Back Marathon

Well what else is there to do on an Easter Bank Holiday than run a marathon. Even better this one was free ! Enigma Running who put on many small marathons each year decided to offer this one as a "thank you" to their runners who enter their races. So w...

Enigma Good Friday Marathon

Back to it today and  a bigger contrast to the carnival of London you couldnt imagine. The Buff Enigma Good Friday marathon run round Caldecotte lake in Milton Keynes (seven times). About 50 runners and a small but select number of supporters (ok people...

Virgin London Marathon 2014

How can you not love the London Marathon, 35,000 people, hundreds of thousands cheering us on and a cracking organisation that make almost everything run really smoothly. If Carlsberg made Marathons. This was my sixth London and its one of the few races...

Brighton and final training

Hope everyone is tapering nicely for next week. Not long now and the next week will see some huge highs and lows. You can do very little training wise now but main thing is to get lots of rest as sleep plays a really important part of being marathon rea...

Up and Down Dover Seafront

One of the things I like about running is that no two races are ever the same. For the next two weekends we have the two biggest races in the UK, Brighton next weekend and then London the weekend after. 10,000+ at one and 35,000+ at the other. Where as ...

Is it taper time?

Three weeks from now I wonder what we will all be doing? We will have taken part in what I truly believe to be the very best day out in London you can get. Some will have set PBs, some will have run the distance for the first time and will forever more ...

If Carlsberg made running wee...

Afternoon all and hope the weather with you is as perfect as it is here today. Its been a very good week running wise and the training seems to be coming together nicely at the moment. Couple of lunch time runs in London during the week. These are gett...

Plodding Along

Looks like we are getting to the business end of marathon training now. Be careful especially if this is your first time - the accumulative fatigue of the past 12 weeks or so will be building up and some people push it that little bit too hard and get i...

101 Not Out

Been a fabulous weekend as I got to spend it with a great bunch of mates doing something I love doing – running marathons. Four days of running presents a special challenge and one that always throws up some unexpected issues but this weekend went about...

Training seems to work a bit.

So this training lark – it actually works doesn’t it? What a surprise – why didn’t someone tell me earlier then I would have done more. To rewind slightly – as anyone who followed me last year will know that whilst I did a lot of races I did hardly any ...

Jogging on

Nothing much to report really, no races in this last week or so (suffering withdrawal symptons as saw on facebook there was a spot in a marathon tomorrow and was so tempted but resisted). But training is going very well - in that I am actually doing som...

And on the 11th day...

Just a quick update - today was a much better day for running than yesterdays marathon. It stayed dry and although bitterly cold was actually quite pleasant. Managed the marathon 17 minutes faster than yesterday. Felt better, started slower and ran far ...

On the 10th Day of Christmas

And lo at that time of year a decree went out that runners should gather on the 10th Day of Christmas in the Town of Milton Keynes to run 26.2 miles for fun. Following much turkey and mince pies many struggled to make the start line but around 50 answer...

Thats all folks :-)

Was down to run the Portsmouth Marathon this morning but found another more local race yesterday to do instead so enjoued the extra hours in bed rather than the 5 am wake up call that would have been necessary if I had been driving down to Portsmouth. R...

22 Seconds

Christmas is coming, Diaries are getting full Theres hardly any time left To update all on here! OK its not great poetry, well to be honest its not poetry at all but you know what I mean. Life for most of us is hectic at the moment and certainly is unli...

Another bl**dy Enigma Maratho...

Just a quik update tonight. Being the 11/12/13 my marathon dealer (Enigma Running) put on a special marathon starting at 9:10 am so the 9:10 11/12/13 marathon - all a bit tongue in cheek nand the wording on the medal ribbon said it all really "Not Anoth...
