I probably have the largest collection of FLM reject gifts in the world. 5 consecutive rejections! 2007 was my 6th attempt so I got an automatic place. Fortunately, as I knew it was a dead cert, I started my training early. Also in 2007, after nearly 15 years of heartache, miscarriages and failed IVFs we now have a beautiful daughter, Charlotte. 2007 was a heck of a year!

I was hoping to run in under 4hrs but despite the excellent training it was not to be. In true British style I blamed the weather!

There is only one thing for it. Do it again! I applied for a place for 2008 and entered 100's of competitions to get a place but failed. So instead I joined the merry band of Bloggers heading North, except those who lived in Aberdeen who headed South, to the Edinburgh Marathon)

In 2009 I managed to get a place through the ballot but with work commitmentts (I loved the company so much I bought it!), a certain one year old, "When are you going to finish the decorating?" and an injury I picked up in Toronto 10 I postponed to 2010.

Still dreamimg of a sub 4hr marathon......

What have you lot been doing to this website. I can't see you for ads and other junk! Anyway I was plodding around my 100th 5K ParkRun at Bushy Park the other week when i overtook, yes, over took, Mo Farah. I told him to take it easy as he had a big rac...

So what have I NOT been doing...

The Windsor 1/2 for one. Training was on target and going well. On the Saturday before rather than running the Bushy Park 5k run I volunteered to help. Stood around in the cold for 2 hours, went home, bent down to pick up a shoe and bang...................

The only way is down,,,,,,,,,,,

22:59 last week. 22:37 this week. Still short of my 5k PB but getting ever so close. Went for a mid-week 5 mile run followed by the Bushy Park 5K run on Saturday. There were no pacers this week so I was on my own. I still can't quite believe I've knocke...

Did it!

Sub 23 mins at Bushy Park yesterday. 22:57 to be precise. They had pacers this week so I managed to keep ahead of the 23 pacer all the way. Maybe not the best tactic but I crawled over the line just ahead of him. Next time perhaps I'll trail him and opt...

Just a short blog as I'm supposed to be packing for Libya. Went up to the Expo on Friday but did noy see anyone, except Paula Ratcliife. Caught the boat back from Canary Wharf to Bankside - OXO Tower, Wobbly Bridge and all that - where the hotel was. We...

Last day in the office tomorrow. Up to London on Friday to the Expo, over to the V&A Grace Kelly Expo on Saturday, a small matter of 26 miles on Sunday and then Libya for 10 days on Monday. Gulp. Ron Goodwin's The Trap on repeat in the back ground. ...

It's Sarah's birthday next Friday, St.Georges Day don't you know. As a special birthday treat I am taking her up to London on Friday for a slap up pasta meal and a personal guided tour of the Excel VLM Exhibition. Afterwards back to the hotel for an ear...

What a wonderful weekend....

Considering 4 weeks ago I could not walk up the stairs my 17 mile run on Sunday was amazing. A good steady pace along the Thames upto Hampton Court and back and then another 7 mile loop. 2hr50mins. It would have been good to get another few runs upto 20...

They don't get any better, sorry!!! After a 3 week lay up due to calf injury I ventured out for a 4 mile run last night, in the rain. Calf OK, thank God. I'll give it another trial tomorrow and hoping for a 10 miler on Sunday. Obviously I was plannng a ...

I know you guys are full of i...

Advice that is! What else?! My calf seems to be better. Still tender to touch but no longer tight when stretching. Do I go for a run or leave for a few more days just to be sure? Just a short run, 5miles, maybe. ???????????????????????????????????

Ouch!!

Why is it the first thing sports physios say once they have you on the slab is "relax"! I'd forgotten the pain. Ian, the psycho, kept saying "can you feel that?". Of course I can B***** feel it.That's why I'm now hanging from the ceiling having bitten t...

Poo, poo, poo and more poo

and I'm not talking about the contents of CHarlotte's nappies! I pulled my calf muscle at the Bushy Park 5K yesterday and had to pull up. Yesterday was painfull but his morning, although stiff, is not as bad. Booked in for a phsyio tomorrow and then I s...

but in no particular order. My Sunday run extended to 12.5 miles but it was horrible. The tow path was a swamp and all the twisting, jumping and side stepping meant I could not get any decent rythm going. Anyway two days later and no side effects or str...

It's taken me three years but I finally reached 50 today. That's 50 Bushy Park 5K Time Trials. Long way to go to the very exclusive 250 club!!!!! Shaved another 5 seconds off today, 23:07. So close to the sub 23 minutes. Next week....... Kew Gardens th...

I feel good......

Considering the week at work and a rather soggy weather tonights run felt good. 7 miles, probably a bit more after running around all the puddles. Managed to finish painting the kitchen door last night. Three down seven to go. Doors that is not kitchens...

27 seconds...that all

A mear 27 seconds off my time at Bushy Park 5k TT yesterday. 23:09. Exactly the same time as I did on 26 April 2008! My PB at 5k is 21:42 but that was over 3 years ago. But I am making steady progress. I can't believe I'm knocking such big junks off the...

Greetings from the Sahara...

No I'm not lost just stuck in the middle of no where in Libya. Trying to  get out for a run is difficult due to meetings and work and a lot of sand!! Hope you are all enjoying the damp cold weather in Blighty. It is a warm 20o here. Keep going.

Positively balmy....

...the weather and you lot!! From -5 to +8 in a couple of days. My body doesn't know what to do! And now I'm off to North Africa for a week! Just short of 6 miles tonight. Nothing too exciting. No abuse from cars. No running into lamp posts. No aches or...

Just a quickie...

Just got back from an 8 mile run, quick shower and off to see the animals at Chessington. Yesterday I did the Bushy Park 5k in 23:36. This is the fastest I've done since June 2008!! and 50 secs faster than last week. The rest of the week pales into insi...

Nippy or what!

The weather that is not my running! Someone turned the thermostat down again! Just got back from a 5mile run and it is cold. I was begining to suffer from shinsplints towards the end of Sundays run but they appeared to have cleared up tonight. I did mak...

What a difference a week make...

After my first "full" weeks of running my 5k Bushy Park time trial time went from 24:57 down to 24:22. Amazing. Here we go..... Last Sundays long run was just short of 7 miles. I was feeling a bit sluggish by mile 5. However the sight of a pair of long ...

4th run in a week !!!!

It's been a long time since I've done 4 runs in a week. Tonights was about 4 miles. making the weeks total just short of 20. Not enough I know but hopefully I can increase very quickly over the coming weeks. Spent most of today on the M25. Great chunks ...
