My first marathon, eek!!
I have a place to run my first marathon - and the London marathon too, yay!
I am quite excited but also a little scared, I have never done anything like this before. I have been reading and planning lots over the last few days and just finalising my training plan - training starts Monday!! Looking forward to getting started ....

... no more being a lazy bum!!
New training plan printed out and up on the kitchen wall.
New diet plan in my brain.
Event ready to be entered around September time (once my friends and I have decided which one to do!).
Fingers crossed for a surge of mot...
Lost what? The plot? My rhythm? My mind? My fitness? My running mojo?
Well, in truth, all of the above a little bit!! I have been struggling to get back into it a bit since doing VLM and have felt a bit flat.
I decided to have a proper break after the ...
Well, I did it, yey!! Albeit very slowly, but I DID IT! Here is my story ...
Pre race
We were staying in a hotel in Victoria so after a bowl of porridge I toddled off to get the train to Maze Hill. Journey was fine, but I had forgotten how big the hill ...
I went along to the Expo today and it was really fun! I got all my race days bits and bobs, had some pasta at the 'party' (I think they need to look up the definition of a party, haha), and had a good mooch around the stands.
I loved the 'marathon' musi...
I can't believe we're into the last week of training, wowzers! I did a little long run today, my last run of any significance. Just a couple of little ones this week and I'll be good to go - in theory anyway!!
My cough is still bothering me. I went to t...
I know it's better to feel ill this week than next, but am pretty fed up of having so many coughs/colds. I haven't been able to run at all sine the weekend and am losing confidence fast - not that I had that much to start with. Booooo.
Ho hum. Only 10...
Life got in the way a bit last weekend (my little girl's birthday, visitors, party, trip to see cBeebies Live!!) so had to delay my final LSR to this weekend. And now it's done. YEY!! I can't believe we are on the final 2 week countdown. Wowzers.
My run...
aaarrrggghhhh!!
I can't believe it's so close already. I'm partly excited, partly scared half to death!
Bring. It. On.

I did 16.5 miles today. Blimey. It was hard, but I did it - just about!
The good ...
1. I had been getting a few twinges in my right knee, so after a few false starts with knee supports this week, I went out today with an adhesive bandage round my knee....
And what do I do? Fall over!! I'm not even sure how or why, I just hit the deck on a gravelly path. Splat. Ouch.
I carried on for a few more miles with a grazed/bumped knee and some skin missing from both palms, but have to admit to cutting my run short...
I have taught my girls to share nicely, and that's exactly what they've done.
Unfortunately they have shared their yucky bugs with me and I am now laid up with the most horrible sore throat/cough/cold I think I have ever had! Bleurgh. I ache from head t...
Well, that was a tough run - but another one ticked off the list! I got a little caught out by the sun/heat and had to stop at a garage for extra water - rookie mistake! I should probably try the trick of hiding drinks along my route next time it's hot....
The gravitational pull from my sofa was huge tonight, but I overcame it and went out for a run ... go me!
I have had a busy week and my 2 year old s a bit poorly at the moment so I was up A LOT last night, and was pooped by this evening. But as always, ...
I did 13 miles today, longest run yet. And I ran all the way - very slowly admitedly, but still, no walking at all so was pleased with that! The weather was lovely too - no ice, blue sky and sunshine, much nicer.
I am a bit torn between being pleased to...
I have been a bit of a wus about trying carbo gels during my long runs - have heard lots of stories about people needing to dash to the loo etc.
But, having talked to the nice Lucozade man at the Meet the Experts session last weekend, and having been t...
Well, it's been a funny old week.
After a couple of good-ish (albiet a bit chilly) runs, I had a real run of 2 halves on Friday. I wasn't feeling it at all to begin with and the first couple of kms were a struggle. I kept having to stop and walk for no ...
Despite having a horrible cold and missing a couple of runs, January has been pretty successful - by my standards that is, this will look a bit pathetic to you seasoned marathon types!!
Here's what I managed ...
Total distance = 125km (77.8 miles)
Longe...
I managed 19km today (11.8 miles) ... all in one go, no walking, YEY!! I was tired and really hungry (must sort out my in-run snacks a bit more) when I stumbled home, but felt just about ok and was pleased with my effort.
I've had a nasty cold this week...
My long run is going to be 18-20km this weekend - blimey, blimey. That distance sounds a bit scary to a novice. Although it's even more scary to think that that's not even half a marathon.
I have had a rotten cold this week and had to take some time off...
Wow, where is the time going??!!
Training going ok at the moment, thankfully. I did 17km this weekend so feel like I am beginning to crank up the distance. I am quite keen to try more and see how far I can go, but am being sensible and sticking to my pl...
I am very grateful to have got all the way to mid Jan with relatively mild weather for training, but by jingo, it was cold out there this morning!! I ran with gloves and ear warmer thingy for the first time ever, and really needed them.
Having said that...
Rather annoyingly I don't like bananas, I wish I did!
So I am never sure what to eat before I head out for my long runs as I tend to go early-ish. If I run within about 2-3 hours of eating a proper meal I get a stitch that won't shift, so I can't really...
I felt pretty good after last night's interval session and decided I didn't need 2 rest days before my 'long' run on Sunday, so I headed out for an extra run tonight.
Hmmm. Not very clever.
The first couple of kms were great but it didn't last. My poor ...
... and it felt pretty good, phew!!
I did it at the gym as I don't have the self control to pace myself properly if I do them outside. By the time I left I was a bit of a sweat ball, yuuukk!
Still, all good, and 3rd session this week done. Long run left...
