The Great South Run and Beyond

I have been running for a number of years now and this will be the third year in the Great South Run. I am hoping to start to increase the speed of my running as I get fitter and slimmer. My main aim with running is to enjoy it, day in day out and still be enjoying it in another 25 years time.

Cold Outside

It has been a quiet week with not much running going on. Monday I led the running group for the first time on a steady 5K, I think it went ok. Then the rest of the week was swimming, climbing and horse riding, it is nice to have a break from running for...

A hilly half

What lovely weather we have had the last couple of days. Yesterday I ran a trail half marathon, it is very hilly but with great views and one of my favourite races. The weather was very kind with some lovely sunshine. I love the atmosphere you get at th...

A change of scene

A completely different weekend this weekend as we went away to Somerset, somewhere I have never really visited. We walked around Cheddar Gorge enjoying the views and watching people rock climb, which did make me a little envious. ( I really need to impr...

Run Leader

I have now registered on a Run Leader Course with the running club after being asked to help run some sessions while the normal leader is off having a baby. The course is not until February  but I will get involved helping with warm up and cool downs be...

Run Leading and back to swimming

A good week this week. Sunday I went for a 10 mile run with the dog through the woods, it was felt great to be back on the longer runs. Monday I joined the running club for a gently interval session. I have been asked to lead some sessions on a Monday ...

It is time to run now

It has been quite a busy week. Sunday I did a Triathlon and it went really well. The swim felt pretty comfortable, the bike ride was easier than last year as they had made it shorter and the run was the same as always. Overall a good result with a sligh...

A winter Sunday

A good weekend, with a swim on Friday lunchtime, a 16 mile cycle on Saturday and then 10 k run with the dog on Sunday.  The run on Sunday was really enjoyable with Autumn certainly here. We ran half road and then back through the woods and down by the r...

Back to it

Everyone is now back at school and we back in  a more normal routine. I have been skipping my lunch break a lot recently and that was really when I ran, so my new school year resolution is to take at least a half hour break at lunchtime to get outside a...

Cotswolds Sportive

A very early start was required for my first Sportive. 4.30am alarm clock and then we got , me , kids dog and husband and of course bike,  in the car and off we went to the Cotswold. Arriving a little early we stopped in Chipping Norton for a coffee an...

The Aquathon

Well the Aquathlon went great. My first attempt at an Open Water swim in a competition. It was not really much of a completion as it was a Go Tri event so very friendly and relaxed. We all swam out to the start together. I started the swim at the back a...

Another Aquathon

Tonight is my first Aquathon in a lake. I did one last week in a pool, but this is the first time open water. Apparently the lake is pretty warm as the weather has been sunny here so I am not sure if it wetsuit or not. Part of the nerves is to do with w...

Something new

On Tuesday night I did my first Aquathon with Go Tri. It was very good fun, the event was very friendly with just a  small group of us. It was held at a local leisure centre and we had two lanes in the pool to use, followed by a run around some waste gr...

Run, cycle and swim

It has been a few weeks, but my excuse is I have been away on holiday . We had a lovely week in Mallorca with plenty of cycling, running and some sailing. Mallorca is really well set up for cycling and we tried on of the climbs up into the mountains, fi...

Not Much Happening

Not much has been happening since Brighton Marathon, but I am enjoying being more relaxed with training. A few Park Runs, a weekly swim and  a cycle or two has taken place but not much else. This weekend I am going to give open water swimming a go and I...

Brighton Done

So Brighton Marathon has now been completed and how did it go. The whole weekend seemed to have required a massive amount of organisation including father in law coming to look after the dog and my mother coming with us. Saturday started off not quite a...

Not long now

One week to go until marathon day. I had a very pleasant and easy 8 mile run on Sunday and then went out for a sociable 3 miles last night with the club. The legs are feeling great and I am now starting to get very excited. I feel pretty prepared now. T...

Anyone know any cold cures

The weather has been glorious here over the weekend. Sunday was a 12 mile run in the country lanes and then today a 5k. Taper time is really here this week with  a lot less running going on. Both my son and husband have really bad colds at the moment,  ...

20 miles in the bag

Wow lots to catch up. I shall start with Sunday two weeks back when I did a very comfortable and enjoyable 12 miles. Most of my  runs have felt quite hard and my legs have been aching, but this one was good and it felt like ‘only’ 12 miles. Then on Wedn...

19 Miles Done

Not much else to say about Sundays run, it was wet, it was windy, the roads were flooded in places. It was sunny, I felt great, then I felt bad, then  I felt good again.  But the target was achieved, 19 miles were competed with no mishaps and in a bit o...

In a dilema

As the weekly mileage is increasing the aches and tiredness are increasing. I have now started to go to bed earlier, eat better and foam roller each day and I think I am ready for my 19 mile run on Sunday.      A little bit of a hiccup though, when I ra...
