The Great South Run and Beyond

I have been running for a number of years now and this will be the third year in the Great South Run. I am hoping to start to increase the speed of my running as I get fitter and slimmer. My main aim with running is to enjoy it, day in day out and still be enjoying it in another 25 years time.

20 Done

A lovely sunny morning and a 20 mile run completed. It all went pretty well although a bit of a tight calf made the last 4 miles feel a little anxious. The marathon I have entered is described as undulating, previously I have avoided hills for my longer...

Getting there slowly

What a lot of rain. It is so wet here now. Two weeks ago  I tried to go out for a run, put my trainers on and as soon as I started to run I had a sharp pain my ankle. So stopped running. Later in the same evening I walked the dog and tried a few steps o...

Flexibility and ploughing on

What a change from last Monday, it is beautifully sunny here and warm today. Thank you for everyone’s advice last week  regarding the  missed long run. I decided to keep the weekly mileage quite high last week but by doing two medium runs rather than t...

What to do when things do not...

Normally on a Monday I can report my runs for the previous weekand  a long run on Sunday , well this week has not gone to plan. In the week I completed my 3 runs as planned and then Sunday was to be my long run of 18 miles. Saturday night there was slig...

A bit of an adventure

Last week started on Monday with a sort of treasure hunt run with the running club. You had to follow clues and then take a selfie when you found the place the clue led you to, there were 5 to 8 clues to follow.   I was in a team with a friend and her d...

Snow

Yipee we had some snow, the kids got 2 days off school and we made the most of it with some long walks and sledging whenever possible. Knowing the snow was coming I managed a 9k run on Wednesday and then no more until 10 miles yesterday with the dog in...

A Sunny 16 miles

Well who has snow, none here but it is cold and very sunny. Last week my long run was hard work, with a dodgy tummy at half way and ending with a very sore calf and walk back. However the calf has been fine ever since and this Sunday could not have been...

Sunny today

It is a beautiful sunny day here today and not that cold. I have already been out for a walk with the dog and it was lovely. I will go for a short run at lunchtime and will be swimming early tomorrow morning. I completed a 14 mile run last Sunday but w...

New Run Leader

It is a  lovely sunny morning here. My weekend was slightly different than normal as I did the Leader in Running Fitness Course on Saturday. Four of us from the club went so I had some friendly faces. It was a very fully day and also very informative. I...

PB ALERT

Hold the front page I have some big news. PB ALERT! Oh yes PB on Sunday at the Coastal Half Marathon. I had a feeling all that muddy running with the dog was paying off. Not just a PB but 3 minutes faster. I did have a bit of help on the way round as I...

Mud and then more mud

It is beautifully sunny here today and I am planning a 5k run at lunchtime. Yesterday I ran 6k in the woods with the dog, wow it was muddy and we both required a shower when we got back, the dog in the garden with the hose I went for a little more luxur...

Wet and Windy

Recently ever run seems to have been wet and windy and even the dog is getting down about it. Yesterday was probably the worst and I had to slide the dog across the kitchen floor to get him out of the door for a run. So this week so far has been: Satur...

Enjoyable Sunday Run

Sunday I headed out for a 12 mile run and it went really well. Just me and radio two, I took it steady and just relaxed ad enjoyed the run. Today I am going to give running club a miss. The weather here is dreadful, wet and windy, I also think my legs n...

It has all got as bit busy

A busy start to January with a run at the club on Thursday evening, then swimming training on Friday morning followed by climbing in the evening. Park Run Saturday morning and then a 7 mile run in the woods with the dog on Sunday morning, dropped him ba...

Reviewing 2017

I love a new year, I like the excitement of a new diary , an empty calendar and all the promise and possibilities ahead. 2017 seems a long time ago now and I have moved on to new ideas and plans, but I must make myself stop and take stock of what was a...

Christmas is coming

Christmas is getting close now and I enjoyed a lovely run with the club on Monday evening looking at all the lights on the houses and then ending at the pub for a drink and mince pies.  Such a simple evening but great fun. It was a cold and clear night ...

It is a wet day here today  but  am looking forward to a run at lunchtime. I have been reading other people’s blogs but not necessarily commenting, sorry, it is great to see what people are up to and what plans they have. Before I start marathon traini...

Cold Outside

It has been a quiet week with not much running going on. Monday I led the running group for the first time on a steady 5K, I think it went ok. Then the rest of the week was swimming, climbing and horse riding, it is nice to have a break from running for...

A hilly half

What lovely weather we have had the last couple of days. Yesterday I ran a trail half marathon, it is very hilly but with great views and one of my favourite races. The weather was very kind with some lovely sunshine. I love the atmosphere you get at th...

A change of scene

A completely different weekend this weekend as we went away to Somerset, somewhere I have never really visited. We walked around Cheddar Gorge enjoying the views and watching people rock climb, which did make me a little envious. ( I really need to impr...

I have now registered on a Run Leader Course with the running club after being asked to help run some sessions while the normal leader is off having a baby. The course is not until February  but I will get involved helping with warm up and cool downs be...

Run Leading and back to swimming

A good week this week. Sunday I went for a 10 mile run with the dog through the woods, it was felt great to be back on the longer runs. Monday I joined the running club for a gently interval session. I have been asked to lead some sessions on a Monday ...

It is time to run now

It has been quite a busy week. Sunday I did a Triathlon and it went really well. The swim felt pretty comfortable, the bike ride was easier than last year as they had made it shorter and the run was the same as always. Overall a good result with a sligh...
