I have a plan...

I started this blog when I got a ballot place in VLM 2011, I've kept it going (sometimes with biggish gaps) ever since and have changed the title occasionally to reflect how I think things are changing for me. The latest title is to promote my training plan which is a user friendly guide to training for endurance events focussing on diet.

Time on my hands...

This has taken ages to compose, I thought that I would have plenty of time on my hands to keep my blog updated but as it turns out I haven’t.  Let me explain. A couple of Saturdays as you most probably know from other blogs on here was a realbuzz meet ...

A few things to catch up on

Since the London Surrey 100 I have been struggling with a lower back pain, it is a regular occurring problem and I have been referred for physiotherapy in the past. I do manage most of the time to keep it under control but flare ups can come out of now...

RideLondon-Surrey 100

I had been increasing my weekly mileage as part of the training, the final full week I notched up 156 miles, then a final 65 miles just before the big day meaning that I would have my biggest week’s mileage for the year, assuming that I got around the f...

The Chiltern 100 2017

Looking back at my blog and a couple of years ago I wrote about my first attempt at the Chiltern 100 and my second attempt at conquering the Whiteleaf climb.  It wasn’t the greatest day and the score stood now at Whiteleaf 2-0 Marc. I have been riding ...

HU5k, The Great Oggie Run

Well having the two Daves blogging just before is a hard act to follow, especially when they are ultras and this is just about a 5k! Not any old 5k mind you, this is now a permanent fixture in the realbuzz calendar, my third time there and certainly no...

Some cycling and other bits

Apparently the realbuzz photo uploader works so that’s enough to inspire me to put some words together and then I can share some pictures.  I hope that I am not going to be disappointed! A quick injury update to start with – hamstring tendons are slowl...

Dulwich parkun - another buzz...

It was an early start last Saturday morning, I cycled the couple of miles to the station and caught the 7.14 train to Herne Hill.  From Herne Hill station to Dulwich Park was a 10 minute cycle according to Google maps and so I set off on two wheels thr...

I'm heading "Way on down sout...

How time flies! Ages again since I blogged! And hopefully this time the new realbuzz will actually let me post this!! Just a quickie this time as I have a lot of reading of marathon heroics to catch up with, you lot are amazing! My return to running h...

I am still here

I have just heard from none other than our Head Coach, Hollywood himself!  He said he hadn’t heard from me in a while which was a timely reminder that I have not posted on here at all this year!  Time to put that right, right now! This could be a bit of...

End of the year.

It’s New Year’s Eve, a good chance to sit down and get my memories of 2016 down for posterity so here goes. I had three meetings with the lovely folk that I have got to know through this site, at the HU5K, Fulham Palace parkrun and St Albans parkrun.  I...

Not running but not defeated

By this time next week I will have passed the milestone of two months of not running.  How do I feel about that? I am not sure really.  The positive feeling is that I will properly recover from injury this time, patience will bring it’s reward.  At the ...

The non running blog continues..

Five weeks now of complete rest achieved and you know what?  The pain, the soreness has actually gone!  I have lived with it in varying degrees for around 18 months and now that it has stopped I have realised that the advice ‘listen to your body’ is sou...

This has become a non running...

I’m sitting here thinking about how many of you are having a ball in North Wales right now, anticipation building, some nerves creeping in for sure but one thing for certain is that the team spirit is alive and well.  Team Realbuzz are about to demolish...

The Great Birmingham Run 2016

I wrote on here a couple of posts ago about how little running I have done in the past six months so my attempt at a half marathon was always going to be an interesting challenge. The day after Em’s birthday parkrun I had a plan to run and get to double...

Emelie's birthday and Fulham ...

What better way to help one of us celebrate their birthday than with a run? Not just any old run either but a parkrun and we all love a bit of parkrun once in a while don’t we? Well it was our very own Superswede Emelie’s birthday and luckily for us she...

There's a parkrun coming up t...

Prior to the Great Oggie Run I had managed to run 85.5 miles in total since the 3rd April, a rough calculation worked that out to be an average of 3.7 miles per week.  Not a lot of running then. The Great Oggie Run though was so inspiring, knowing how e...

The Great Oggie Run 2016 and ...

I may have pushed my plan a little too hard this time.  You know my plan by know, it’s a relaxed approach that has not failed to deliver a sub 4hr marathon yet, I reckon it should be more popular really.  What is not to like about it?  How many plans al...

Golden Stag Mile

Having set two new PB times back in May at 800m and 1500m I wanted to try and keep my middle distance ambitions on a roll.  I entered the classic mile distance race before the latest injury so having had absolutely no training was in two minds about whe...

Verulam 100

Taking advantage of another injury enforced break (more on that later) to sit down and catch up on what I have been up to since the HU5K.   Just a few days later I went down with a sickness bug (nothing to do with the HU burger or sausages!) which took ...

The HU5K 2016, it does go on ...

Time to catch up on the past week then. No running still, HU5K will be my first run in three weeks but have not been idle cycling is keeping me going. Last Saturday was ‘a breakfast run’ organised by the running club it involves a run around Shenley, mo...

Tour of Cambridgeshire 2016 -...

A week has flown by since the Tour of Cambridgeshire so thought I needed to get something down in writing before I forget what happened. This is the second year of the ToC and by all accounts the first one was a success so I thought I would give it try ...

Thrills and spills in South W...

One of my more exhilirating pastimes on two wheels is mountain biking.  It is probably the most dangerous activity that I take part in but the mixture of challenge and excitement mixed with huge doses of adrenaline really does get me buzzing! Last week ...
