I have a plan...

I started this blog when I got a ballot place in VLM 2011, I've kept it going (sometimes with biggish gaps) ever since and have changed the title occasionally to reflect how I think things are changing for me. The latest title is to promote my training plan which is a user friendly guide to training for endurance events focussing on diet.

The Spring Double

Injury update first before getting into the good stuff. Have had an ultrasound scan on the painful hamstring, no apparent tear which was good news but not so good was the mention of tendon problems and the doctor has now recommended I have an MRI scan t...

April finished well and a goo...

I will try and keep this as brief as possible as yet again it has taken me ages to sit down and start writing. I am so busy with things that I just don’t have the time to record it all! My typical week starts on a Monday morning with a gym session befor...

Keeping busy

Yet again I have left a bit of a gap with the updating on here..   Manchester blew me away, you lot were immense in your performances, you endured all the usual emotions of a marathon, you embraced the whole thing and achieved (oh, and a spe...

I have done it indoors now

Running indoors that is.. As you are already most probably aware the World Indoor Athletics Championships are taking place in Portland, Oregon. I said I was going to try something new at the end of my last post and guess what?  I may not have gone made ...

Ware's Cambridge?

An early start on a foggy Sunday morning, rather chilly too.  The first sportive of the year for me, Ware’s Cambridge?  It starts and finishes in Ware going via Cambridgeshire.  It seemed a good idea at the time when I signed up for the full distance ev...

Berkhamsted Half marathon 2016

It’s March again and time for one of my fave local races, the Berko Half.  Berkhamsted is a pretty town that nestles in a pass in the Chilterns, both the Grand Union canal and the West Coast Main line pass through linking London to the Midlands and beyo...

Some running and some cycling...

I’m taking the opportunity of a rare Sunday off to pen this latest update.  Most of the gang have been running the Gade Valley training run today, some did the official 17, others have done the 20 mile route. I have had a bit of a rest this week and dec...

Bramley 20 (2016 event)

My first Bramley 20 and despite the disappointment of not meeting a certain Chippenham Harrier I certainly enjoyed the event! It's a great early in the calendar event, well organised and a lovely course as well, what's not to love about it? Libbylaird h...

I haven't given up

Wow! Where did January go? There's blogging going on on here like never before but from yours truly? A big fat nothing for over a month! Well I haven't been idle (apart from the blogging obviously!) and notched up 91 miles of running and 61 miles cyclin...

You are finished 2015...

As I said at the end of my last post I had a little bit more in store for 2015, but it had a little bite back at me too! Two days before Christmas day, the weather was set fair and what better way to make the most of than a spot of mountain biking? One ...

A little bit more to give you...

Hello from Mr Grumpy! Well that's what I have been known as for the past two weeks since hurting my back. I was christened that by Mrs P and my daughter. Apparently I am really grumpy when I can't get out and run or cycle? Anyone else get like this? The...

Sidelined at the moment

My updates on here have dwindled to just one a month, probably because I have been too busy training! Not now though, sadly the old back injury has flared up, I went to clean my MTB as I needed it to ride up to watch the rugby last Saturday, somehow the...

Muddy bike ride

Almost a month since my last post so thanks to Kathy for prompting me (even though you won't know how yet) to get some writing done! So I have just seen Kathy's photos of Coombe Hill on Facebook which has reminded me of a night out a couple of weeks bac...

Great Birmingham Run 2015

I've had to put a quick post on here to capture last weekend's run otherwise it would get lost in the avalanche of blogging that is about to descend from the mountains of Snowdonia! I had been apprehensive about this West Midlands based half marathon, m...

London Duathlon 2015 - my exp...

It's taken some time to decide how to tell this particular story, I took on a challenge, it didn't quite go to plan but it wasn't all bad. So a bit of a mixed bag of events but maybe by the time I finish getting this all down on paper (e-paper that is) ...

And here is the next challeng...

As I can't do Snowdon then I have been focussing on something else to do in the Autumn, something that I can get my teeth into. You may remember that last year I tried out a few duathlons with mixed results but as they don't involve the dreaded swimming...

The Great Oggie Weekend (part 2)

For today's event in support of the whole Great Oggie experience I completed the Hertfordshire 100.  It was 105 miles and took me 7:10:26 precisely. I was really pleased to have cracked the 100 mile milestone, that is the furthest I have ever cycled (so...

The Great Oggie Run (part 1)

A solo Great Oggie Run for the first time for me this year.  I had got used to running with a fair few of you for the last two, a lack of planning and organisation this time though meant that I would be doing it with you all in spirit. I started this mo...

Back on (the) track

I scrapped a half written post that I'd been meaning to finish for ages, I couldn't seem to find the time to finish it as I have been busy doing some training these past few weeks. You will have seen Mike Seaman's last update about his injury, he was go...

Snowdonia bound? Please can ...

As I can't make Snowdonia this year I am giving my place to Mike Seaman but having trouble with the transfer procedure. Apparently the confirmation email has the instructions in it of how to transfer but I can't find it. I have contacted the organisers ...

Lots of things

I'm reading and then re-reading all your latest updates, some of which are very long! Sorry if I have yet to comment on yours but I am enjoying the stories and making sure that I don't miss any bits! In the meantime I'll jot down my last week or so's wo...

Let this run on forever

I am desperately trying to get this latest update on record as I have yet another 2015 experience that I want to capture for posterity. I have had one of those days that truly makes me feel so glad that I embarked upon this journey of running that I nev...

Tri-ing again

So here is the triathlon story.. I'll say that I did have a go at a sprint triathlon four or five years ago so it wasn't my first but there are reasons why there is such a long gap. Firstly I fell off my bike in the first one and hurt myself although I ...

HU5K and some training - I'm ...

Time to catch up on the last few days.. I finally got into the swimming pool to start practising for the triathlon. Better late than never eh? Actually no. Other than it got me used to being in a big, wet rectangle shaped thing I would probably have bee...
