Who's it for?

Posted on: 06 Sep 2013

This is always my traditional eve of big race rallying call.  OK, so it's not just for me this time round - well, it never is - but this time, more than any other, it's for us all.

Who's it for?

Well, I'll tell you.  It's for everyone who helps support you when you run.  That means your family and friends of course, but also all your fellow buzzers.  And there's more on that in a minute.

It's for the great NASS charity of course.  How fab has the fundraising been?  We can all run rest assured that the funds we raise will be put to good use.

And what a support network we have of course.  We can always say what we like on this site, and get the support that we need.  In the same way, we will always offer what advice we can.  Some of it comes from amazingly seasoned veterans, like Bolty, John, Rob to name a few.  Some of it comes from very enthusiastic volunteers, who know how important it is to hear something, whether that's said from experience or not.  I am happy to count myself in that latter group, and I know that a number of you are also proud to belong to it as well.

And no-one more so than the big man himself.  Yep, Hollywood.  Has anyone given more advice or support?  Has anyone offered more hugs, either real or on-line?  Always first with the cheering and the support.  Always first to say 'well done' or 'pick yourself up...'

By now, I am sure you have read his blog.  And like me, you were saddened mightily by its content.  Like me, though, I am sure that you know that his never say die spirit will pull him through if it'll ever pull anyone through.

So, who's it for?

Well, whoever else it's for, run with Dave in your mind (or for a lucky few, by your side).  Run with his words of encouragement in your ears.  If it's tough, onwards and upwards.  If it rains, onwards and upwards.  If you're hot, or tired, if it's dark or sunny?  Well the advice is the same.  Run as he would - onwards and upwards.

It's time to do it.  However far you are running, it's time to do it.  To Oggie and Dave, the very best of luck from us all as you tackle Dingle.  To those who are running half marathons, the very best of luck from us all.  And Hollywood is in that number.   To our cheerleader in chief, you run with the best wishes of us all, and our thanks for all of the support that you have given.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's emotional.

Let's roll.....
