Should I wear my mud with pride or wash my trainers?

Another query.  I’ve just noticed that my training programme I’ve sort of been following (basically used for guidance) has only three weeks left but my half marathon isn’t until March 2nd.  So do I just repeat sessions I liked, increase the rest days or just make it up as I go along?

Completed training last week:

Thursday 9th Jan – 40mins up and down Crystal Palace hill. Managed to get out at 7.30am so it was dark and a bit damp underfoot.   Slogged up the hill and enjoyed the down, had to be a bit careful as there were a few patches of wet leaves on the pavements on the downward side but got past them without any slippages.

Weather was a bit grim and nippy (started to spit a bit on the way up which I didn’t mind – quite refreshing).   4.5km @ 6.7km/ph

Saturday – Parkrun – Lots of local parkruns cancelled due to flooding so record turnout this week: 242 runners finished – I placed a satisfactory 239 @ 35.21 Ran outside my comfort zone today and improved on the last few weeks.  Long way off my St Albans PB but I ran my heart out that day.

Looking forward to seeing Vin next week.  Would be nice to best my PB at Dulwich with him there. (New Year Resolution is a simple one:  When I achieve a PB at the parkrun I will volunteer the following week).   34.51 seems achievable.

Sunday 12th Long run today.  According to my new ‘app’ I achieved 9.11miles in 1.58.30mins so nearly 2 hours (last 2 hour run [when I got totally lost] I managed 7.5 miles so that’s an improvement.  Just want to get into double figures then I won’t be so worried about Silverstone in March,  I knowexactly how Mrs H is feeling.

The weather was simply perfect, blue sky, warmish sunshine, crisp white frosting on everything, it really was beautiful.  Just had to be a bit careful in case of slippy leaves and icy patches, but I survived.  Did have a bit of a stop at the top of Crystal Palace Hill when asked for directions to the nearest railway station.  After a think I sent him down the road to Sydenham not realising the nearest station was a short distance off the road! Doh!  Never mind.

Two runs in Week 1 of Jan, Three runs in Week 2 so hoping to achieve Four runs this week.  Fingers crossed.

Good luck to everyone in their training this week.
