The early bird

Posted on: 08 Sep 2009

A busy schedule at work today meant an early wake-up call at 6:15am for a 2-mile easy run at 10:00 pace. I'd recovered well from Sunday's 7 miler and although it was amazingly humid for that time of the morning, the run was very pleasant and I completed it easily in 19:49.

I seem to have shaken off various niggles, all on my right side, all of which have appeared since my last Yateley run. In particular, I've had a bit of a problem with my right foot with some discomfort under the ball of the foot and some pain felt o the top of the foot, especially towards the end of my tempo and long runs which was starting to worry me - not a lot of pain but enough for me to keep shifting my stride and weight a little as I run. I could always feel it after a run and it had got to the stage where I was still aware of it by the time of the next run. But today it was fine and it still feels OK - hopefully that'll still be the case after my speed session on Thursday.

This is probably my biggest fear as my training develops - I'll pick up an injury that'll stop me from running for a few weeks. I'm no spring chicken any more - 50 next birthday - and I'm SO enjoying my running, I'm just not sure how I would cope with that. Fingers crossed I won't need to cross that bridge.

Enjoy your running!
