Another lovely morning with the sun filtering through the clouds and a nice 14C with just a little breeze - perfect conditions for my first 8-mile run at 10:00 pace. The only concern I had ahead of the run was whether I should be taking water with me. I don't like running with a bottle and I don't have a bottle belt (anyone recommend one?) so I decided to drink well in the two hours before running. I needn't have worried. I ran a consistent pace throughout with each mile run between 9:52 and 9:58 and completed the run in 79:32. My legs were certainly tiring in the last mile but I wasn't surprised after the speedwork I did on Thursday.
Although the last two weeks training has been hard, I've really enjoyed it. I spent about three months training for the Yateley 10K series which was great but I'd reached the point where I wanted to challenge myself again distance wise - and the last two weeks have begun to do that. Next week represents the half-way point in my training for the Great South Run - week 6 of 11 - a "rest" week with three 4-mile runs which will give me time to recharge the batteries.
Enjoy your running!
