Thanks for making me a fighter!
Today was one of the most inspirational runs I have completed - as you may know if you bother to trouble yourself with my inane ramblings daily, I challenged myself to complete a 4miler today and in my head I kinda wanted to do it all running. Well I ran it at my parents, away from the hills of High Wycombe and instead over in the hilly chilterns of Luton and Dunstable. I got to 1mile before the really big hills kicked in and struggled up and down and up again. My legs were already sore but I carried on and was making good pace. I hit 2.75 miles and my legs were jelly - I was kinda frustrated as this time last year my marathon training was up to about 11miles so struggling with 4 miles is a difficult thing mentally. I conned myself into running to 3 miles and then somehowm, by virtue of tricking my mind into "just running to" 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.75 and 3.8 I was then on the last 400m to home and realised I was going to make it running all the way. I felt quite emotional having forced myself to reach the goal I thought I might struggle with and really enjoyed the curry with my folks afterwards.
38.13 for 4miles is nothing to be ashamed of (9'33 pace average) and when I factor in the 3 large hills it makes me feel especially good about things.
12 in 12 reached. Tomorrow morning will be a deliberately walked or very slow jog for 20 minutes as I have football in the afternoon so here's hoping I wake up and DOMS is not kicking my ass.
