Back in the saddle

Posted on: 04 May 2020

Hi guys, I've been quiet for such a long time because - yes, you guessed it - I haven't been running, sigh. I've always had dodgy knees & being nearly 3stone overweight when I started my return was just too much for them so I had to change my tactics. So off to slimming world I went in an effort to lose weight before re-restarting. I'd been going all of 3weeks when lockdown started & all groups stopped!! Undaunted, I have continued to stick to the eating plan and I've lost 10lb (there's a long way still to go but it's a distinct improvement on where I was) so I've decided to use Couch to 5k to get me going again. Friday was day 1 of week 1. It wasn't fast & it wasn't pretty but it was okay & my knees were fine - yippee! Today was my second outing & it felt better. It still wasn't pretty but it was distinctly quicker. Unfortunately, my left knee did have some twinges halfway through & is still feeling tender as I write this post some 4 hours later. I am hoping that, if I take it slower this time & get my weight more under control, my knees will get stronger & I will be able to do a (short!) race by autumn (if they're back on...) I've got my fingers, toes & everything else crossed - metaphorically, of course - but, as with all things at the moment, only time will tell. I'll keep you posted.
