NYC 2008 Marathon and beyond!

By now I am sure that you have all heard. I have lost the plot! It's official.

I have entered to run in the New York City 2008 Marathon, raising money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

What started off as a joke dare over the Xmas holidays has now materialised into an exciting reality.

I know that there is going to be a lot of hard work and pain over the next 9 months, and i will keep you all posted on my progress on this blog.

I would like to thank Emma in advance for supporting me fully on my journey.

I need the support of you all to encourage me to carry on when I feel like packing it all in.

Thanks Guys.

The end, or just the beginning?

Wow, harder than I thought! It was also a better experience than I thought! NYC marathon rocks!! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Really really tough, and the waiting around from 4am killed me, and definitely had an effect...

THIS IS REALLY GONIG TO HAPPE...

Running with a hangover isn't a good idea, no matter how small the hangover. Went out last Saturday night in the Rolls Royce Phantom we got from the Charity auction event, and obviously had a few drinks. It was a late night too, but I...

Good advice

Thanks Hilary, Phil, and Lucy for your advice on whether I should get the 4am bus, or try to make my own way there at a later time. I think the general consensus is that I should get the bus, and just go with the flow. You...

4am bus!

Just found out that our tour party has been assigned the 4am bus to Staten Island from Midtown. I am seriously considering making my own way there later in the morning. Any ideas anyone?

19 miles (thanks to Ricky Ger...

Did 19 miles on Sunday. Felt like I could have done a couple more too. For most of the 2hrs 48mins it took me to do the 19 miles, I had the Ricky Gervais podcasts on my ipod. They definitely made the task easier. Found out...

Evenings

Why are evening runs so much harder than the weekend morning runs??? I did 5 tonight, but it felt difficult! Whereas, last Sunday it felt ok doing 15. Does anybody know how close family and friends can get to the finish li...

Found out today that Matt has pulled out of doing NYC, so that leaves me on my own. I was watching a video online this week of the official start of the marathon, and seeing the crowds of people lining up at the start I felt a little ...

16 miles

Tough going. I planned an 8 mile route all the way dow nthe promenade in Blackpool, on the new sea front wall/walk. Really nice to do, not too much wind which made it ok. As i hit 14.25 miles it started to get to me, i was...

4 miles recovery run

Did a 4 mile 'recovery' run down to Lytham and then up back the Prom, then over Royal Lytham Golf course to home. Mega windy!! Heard today that Matt is looking like he won't be coming with me to NYC, so it looks like i'll be doing the...

Most ever!

Ran the most ever miles today, 14 miles. On my own, my running partner (Matt) let me down, so i had to don the Ipod headphones and trek out by myself. In a way it was probably best that I hadn't had too long to think about going by my...

Slapped in the face by a tree!

Did the oldest half marathon in the UK today; Freckleton, Lancashire. Actually the 2nd oldest in the World. I somehow managed to beat my previous best of 1.54, and did it today in 1.48.56. The conditions were awful as expe...

Half marathon nerves

MY 2nd half marathon tomorrow, and i am not looking forward to it thatmuch to be honest! My preparation for this one hasn't been as good as when I ran my first half marathon in April. I ran that in 1hr 54mins, and will be pleased if I...

Long time no blog, but here I am back on the blog site! Good to see a few other people joining in who are also doing NYC this year. It's gonna be great to all meet up come the big day! I have been bakc in training steadily...

Easy like Sunday morning?

First proper run since the Half marathon two weeks ago. Ran with Tony, which was great. My knee starting giving me jip after a couple of miles, but it ended ok. Looking forward more and more to NYC as time goes...

Back into it

First run after my Malaga holiday break, and it wasn't easy. I have a bit of a chest infection I think, but I could cope with that, however my right knee started giving me jip after about 2 miles and I had to walk the last half mile o...

12 miles with Matt

Did 12 miles with Matt today at 8.45 pace. Really glad that Matt came with me, it helps to have someone there to keep you going. Matt did really well, first time he has run more than 6 miles. His feet were killing him afte...

Flying

Did a great run with Mark yesterday. We set off at 7.30am, and aimed to do the first 2 miles at 7 and a half minutes each!, then the next two miles at 8.30 and the last two at 8 mins. I thought I would never do it, but we ...

Back in the groove

Took last week off from running, wasn't really planned but a combination of ****** weather, lack of sleep, working late, and working away meant that I didn't do any running at all. Back in the groove today though, doing 4 miles in 35 ...

Easter Saturday

Did 5 miles today, most of it into a mega strong wind. Nightmare, felt like giving up after about 1 and a half miles. Gonna do 7 miles tomorrow morning before church and the Egg hunt. Over and out.
