My first marathon here I come
April 28th 2009 - that day will go down in history as either:
a) the day I committed my body to an early grave a healthy challenge
or
b) the day I should have been committed to an asylum
I'll know come 25th April 2010! Either way, I'm committed to completing the course!
I took the plunge to guarantee myself a place in the Virgin London Marathon 2010 on that very day at 2pm. I actually registered for a ballot place the day before, but to ensure I'll be running, I signed on the dotted line for my charity place!
I've chosen to run for Scope. They do lots amazing work with disabled people. Scope enables disabled people to have the same opportunities as non-disabled people so that they can live fulfilling lives. As I work for Scope, I've met many people who have had their lives changed because they have been supported by us. I'm running the marathon for Scope because although the marathon has the potential to change my life, the money I raise will go on to help change the lives of many more people.
Although I've been running for many years, I have never ever run beyond a half marathon. The London Marathon will be the biggest challenge for me to date! I'm actually extrememly excited about it right now, but at the same time I am somewhat filled with trepidation. Yesterday, I decided I'd read about about what happens to the body when you put it through 26.2 miles, it scared me a little and I did wonder why I was doing this, but it's made me think more about the importance of the training and preparation in the months running up to it.
I'm probably more concerned about having to raise £1700 for Scope than the actual 26.2 miles.
Decided I'd write a blog to mark my two personal challenges - the running and the fundraising - in order to maintain my motivation right up to the day. Hopefully there will be lots of people to share tips and learnings with.
I've set up my Virgin Giving - Sponsor me page; all sponsorship will be much appreciated. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, you can always use JG - but they take more commission!!!
Goals leading up to 25 April 2010
10k - PB 52:59 - sub:50 // Half marathon - PB 02:02:09 - sub:2:00 // London Marathon - Get me round!
