I'm just about to do my first Tough Mudder and I'm not sure what food to take with me. Do I need to eat during the race?
You will need to both eat and drink along the way if your first Tough Mudder is to end in triumph. But that doesn’t mean you will have to drag a rucksack full of energy snacks and a bottle water across the course. There are lots of water stations throughout the course, staffed by a team of volunteers all looking to keep you hydrated and fuelled up for the challenge.
So as well as water, much-need protein bars will be on offer to help you keep your energy levels high as you power across the challenging course. There may even be a welcome banana on offer – one of nature’s true fitness foods. It will release potassium to help reduce muscle cramps and the carbs it delivers will slowly release the energy you’ll need to get over the most difficult obstacles. It’s a good idea to eat similar snacks during your pre-mudder training, as that way your body won’t find it so much of a shock on the day.
