What are the best ways to keep motivated on an obstacle race?

You should have little difficulty keeping motivated – your fellow participants will make sure of that! They will keep you focused, encourage you and help get you round the course – and you’ll probably do the same for them. That’s what these kind of events are all about.

Take the Tough Mudder Challenge and its pledge’s opening line: “I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge. I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.” That sentence sums it up really. The whole event encourages teamwork out on the obstacle course and it embodies the concept and experience of overcoming the challenges together.

Struggling through all those formidable obstacles together brings a real community spirit to these type of events. Everyone will be finding it hard, but the challenge is all about encouraging and helping each other though the obstacles and finishing together. That’s where you’ll dig deep and where you’ll find much needed motivation.

I'm doing a Tough Mudder and the website says that you don't need to do loads of training beforehand, but it seems like a big challenge. How much preparation is really needed?
