How do I pace the bike section of a triathlon?

Most age group races are non-drafting time trialling. Therefore you have to think about pacing yourself properly. The fastest way to ride a time trial is to even pace your ride so you’re just as strong in the second half as you are in the first. It makes no sense to go flying off in the first 5 minutes and fill your legs with lactic acid.

The first half should be under control and relatively comfortable in order for you to finish strong. If you ride like this you may not pass many people in the first half of the race but you’ll definitely be flying past people in the second half.
